Kean Tops Arcadia in Season Opener

Union, N.J. (2/14/25) – The Kean University pitching staff combined for 13 strikeouts helping the Cougars to a 4-3 opening day win over Arcadia University on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Kean (1-0) put two on the board in the bottom of the second as Tyler Stone and CJ Tomalavage both walked to start the inning.  A successful sacrifice from Brett Hilsheimer put both in scoring position and Nick Sellari drove in the season's first run with an RBI groundout.  The Cougars added one more as Dominic Masino singled off the pitcher's foot.

The Cougars pushed their lead out to four with two more in the fourth.  With runners on second and third and two outs, Justin Teixeira dropped a single into center, bringing home both runners.

Arcadia quickly got on the board in their next at-bat as Jake Hendershot lofted a two out, three-run homer to left.

Jason Gilman (1-0) entered the game and settled things down, facing 16 batters along the way.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Gilman allowed three walks and no hits while fanning eight in four and a third innings.

Hilsheimer was 2-for-3 while Kyle Adorno recorded a double.
