Scots Take Two Against Yeomen

MARYVILLE – The undefeated Scots secured the Series against Oberlin with a 2-0 Saturday performance, taking game one 9-8 and game two 8-1.
 
Game One

MC started out blazing fast through the first three innings, gaining a 6-1 advantage heading into the fourth. Colin Dunworth started the scoring for the Scots, hitting a single to right field and bringing in Ashton Whiteaker from second to take the 1-0 lead in the second. Reece Jordan then singled to left field, scoring Dunworth and Frank Derner to cap off the inning up three to one.
 
Oberlin brought in a run in the top of the third on a single by Baxt that scored Shelton. 3-1 Scots.
 
The bottom of that inning twinned the second, with Maryville scoring three runs. Jacob Johnston scored on an error by the third baseman who attempted to throw out Ashton Whitaker at first but threw the ball too low for the first baseman to handle. Colin Dunworthbrought in another run, lining a ball down the left field line to score Ashton Whiteaker and advance Frank Derner to second base. Matt Hallreached first on a dropped ball error by the right fielder that also scored Derner from third to end the scoring at 6-1 Scots after three.

Oberlin would go on to score the next seven runs of the game, hitting one home run, two doubles, one single, and a sac fly to take an 8-6 lead in the eighth inning.
 
Not backing down from the challenge, Daniel Montana pinch hit for Matt Hall with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth. Montana hit a deep shot down the right field line that was dropped by the right fielder to allow Montana the base and score Whitaker and Hunter Thaxton to tie the game at eight. Reece Jordan singled to right center, scoring Frank Derner from second to take a 9-8 lead.
 
Mitchell Grannan

Mitchell Grannan earned his first win of the season after 1.2 hitless and run less innings to end the game. Grannan struck out two of the final three batters to close out the game for the Scots after the Yeomen threatened to take the game late.

Game Two

A better defensive game for the Scots as they pulled out an 8-1 victory and allowed only three hits
 
After giving up the first run of the game to the Yeomen in the top of the second inning, MC scored eight straight to clinch the series in two games with the series finale coming tomorrow.
 
Frank Derner singled to center field allowing Det Dettwiller to score the first run for the Scots in the third inning. Colin Dunworth hit his second triple of the year to score Frank Derner next. Cody Meier belted his first career home run just to the left of the batter's eye, scoring Colin Dunworth in the process to put the Scots up three runs after three.

Derner brought in his second run of the game in the fourth, scoring Dettwiller on a fly out to left field.
 
In the fifth, Zach Devries singled up the middle to score Reece Jordan. Dettwiller then singled, scoring Devries in the process. AJ Finco blasted a ball to right field, scoring Dettwiller in the process to put the final tally on the board at 8-1 Scots. Dettwiller scored three runs in the game, which led the team.
 
Not to be outshone by the offensive production, Maryville's pitching staff was elite as well. Kyle Timko picked up the win after throwing six complete innings, allowing a mere three hits and one run with four strikeouts in 20 batters faced. Kaden Wimsatt came in relief and picked up a save in the process, pitching three full innings of hitless baseball to seal the game for the Scots. Wimsatt threw four strikeouts against 11 batters faced, while walking only two in the process.
 
The two pitchers have now pitched in two games, combining to allow only five hits and one run in 14 combined innings pitched. Timko's ERA is 0.90 and Wimsatt's is 0.00.
 
The Scots look to sweep the series tomorrow against Oberlin at 1 pm from Scotland Yard.
