WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson baseball team (3-0) held on to an early lead and claimed a 7-5 home win against Arcadia (1-2) Feb. 26 at Jeff Albies Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Pioneers loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth before an RBI infield single by junior Dylan Santos drove in the first run of the game. A pair of sacrifice flies from junior Angel Colon and senior Austin Jack put WP ahead by three (3-0). Senior Braden Ramirez ripped an RBI single up the middle before sophomore Ty Kobylakiewicz cleared the bases with a three-run double to right to extend the lead to seven (7-0).
- Arcadia trimmed the deficit to five (7-2) after plating two runs in the top of the fifth.
- The Knights drove in three runs in the seventh to pull within two (7-5).
- Arcadia had two runners on in the ninth, but sophomore Robert Nathan worked out of the jam to earn the save and give WP the 7-5 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Kobylakiewicz batted 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a run scored.
- Sophomore Stephen Kubis drew two walks and scored once.
- Santos recorded a hit, an RBI and a run scored.
- Senior Neil Telidevara earned his first win of the year after tossing 1.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
- Nathan secured his second save of the season.
