William Paterson Stays Perfect, Walks Off with 4-3 Home Victory Against Stevens

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson baseball team (4-0) used a ninth-inning sacrifice fly to remain undefeated, walking off with a 4-3 home victory against Stevens (1-3) Feb. 27.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Two walks and a double handed the Ducks a 2-0 first-inning lead.
  • WP leveled the score at 2-2 during its first at-bat when junior designated hitter Angel Colon led off with a single up the middle and senior center fielder Braden Ramirez drilled a pitch over the fence in left-center field.
  • The Pioneers took the lead during the home half of the seventh. Sophomore shortstop Devin Daproza ran hard on a short flare down the left-field line, turning it into a double, was sacrificed to third by senior Ruven Pino, and scored the go-ahead run when Colon singled to center.
  • Stevens made it a 3-3 game in the eighth with a walk, base hit, sacrifice bunt and RBI-single.
  • Junior third baseman Jordan Brown started the bottom of the ninth inning with a double to left-center field, and was sacrificed to third by senior catcher Eliot Germanson. The Ducks intentionally walked Colon to put runners at the corners with one out, but Ramirez made them pay when he lifted a fly ball to deep center, a sacrifice fly that plated Brown for the game-winning run.
