The Basics
Score: Shenandoah 10, Randolph-Macon 6
Venue: Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park
Records: RMC 4-4, 1-2 ODAC; SU 9-4, 1-0 ODAC
How It Happened:
- After the Hornets took the lead with a solo homer in the top of the second, the Yellow Jackets answered in the bottom of the frame. Senior Chaz Harvey (Charlottesville, Va./The Miller School) had a leadoff double down the third base line, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore James Baffone (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) and came home on an infield single by freshman CJ Chatterton (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Prep) to level the score at 1-1.
- SU put up single runs in the fifth and sixth and plated four in the seventh before RMC put up a crooked number in the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) was hit by a pitch and scored on a double by Schmitt. Walks to senior Aaron Lautenschlager (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) and Harvey loaded the bases before senior Aidan Pinto (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) delivered a two-run double. Junior Jordan Hill (Norfolk, Va./Granby) followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Harvey and make it a 7-5 contest.
- The Hornets added two in the top of the eighth before Schmitt singled with two away in the bottom of the inning and scored on a double by Lautenschlager. SU scored once in the ninth to make the final 10-6.
