Baseball Drops Game Two to No. 18 Kean

Rocky Mount, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan baseball team fell to No. 18 Kean, 14-5, in game two of the weekend series on Saturday afternoon at Bauer Field.

The Cougars built an early lead, scoring two runs in the second inning and one in both the third and fourth innings to go up 4-0. The Bishops responded in the bottom of the fourth when Javier Quintana launched a solo home run to left field, cutting the deficit to 4-1.

Kean broke the game open in the sixth inning, scoring eight runs on five hits, three walks, and three wild pitches. The Cougars capitalized on defensive miscues and wild pitches from the Bishops' bullpen, extending the lead to 12-1.

Wesleyan battled back in the bottom of the sixth, plating three runs to keep NCWU in the game. Seth Jones singled to center field to drive in two runs after an error allowed Aydin Zimmerman and Kyle Brazeau to cross the plate. Moments later, Connor Ferebee grounded out to shortstop, scoring Malachi Hayes to cut the deficit to 12-4.

Kean tacked on two more runs in the ninth after a pair of wild pitches allowed runners to cross the plate. Jacob Trivette homered to left field in the bottom of the ninth to give the Bishops the final run of the game.

Offensively, Quintana led the Bishops with a home run, a double, and two RBIs, while Trivette added two hits and an RBI. Jones also contributed with two RBIs. On the mound, Marc Dennunzio took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits over five innings.
