Schmitt Knocks in 3 for RMC Baseball vs. Oswego

ASHLAND, Va. – Junior Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) scored twice and drove in three as the Randolph-Macon baseball team was outscored by Oswego State 12-10 on Monday afternoon in a game that was called after seven innings due to darkness.

The Basics

Score: Oswego 12, Randolph-Macon 10

Venue: Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park

Records: RMC 8-6, Oswego 7-3

How It Happened:

  • The Lakers scored three times in the top of the first before the Yellow Jackets got on the board in the bottom of the frame. Schmitt was hit by a pitch with two away and scored on a bases-loaded walk to sophomore Jon Quici (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) to make it 3-1.
  • Oswego added two in the third before RMC put up a crooked number in the bottom of the third. Freshman Mason Bodnar (Arlington, Va./St. John's Prep) was hit by a pitch and Schmitt walked. Following a pitching change, senior Aaron Lautenschlager (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) pounded a double to left center to knock in both runs and make it 5-3. A groundout by freshman Tanner Gates (Colonial Heights, Va./Colonial Heights) brought home Lautenschlager to make it a one-run contest at 5-4.
  • Sophomore Jack Bowles (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) had a one-out single and scored on a groundout by Schmitt as the Yellow Jackets tied the game at 5-5.
  • The Lakers scored twice in the top of the fifth before RMC responded in the bottom of the fifth. Senior Chaz Harvey (Charlottesville, Va./Miller School) was hit by a pitch and went to second on a single by Quici. A sacrifice bunt by Gates moved both runners up. Junior Jordan Hill (Norfolk, Va./Granby) reached on an error that sent Harvey home. Quici scored on a fielder's choice by Bowles to level the score at 7-7. A sacrifice fly by Bodnar knocked in Hill to give the Yellow Jackets their first lead at 8-7.
  • Oswego reclaimed the lead with three in the sixth and added two in the seventh for a 12-8 advantage. In the bottom of the seventh, freshman CJ Chatterton (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Prep) had a one-out single and Bowles walked. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch and both scored on a single by Schmitt to make it 12-10.
