No. 8 Salisbury Baseball rallies past Washington (Md.), 11-8

SALISBURY, Md. – Down 7-0 early, the eighth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team scored nine runs in its final two turns at-bat, coming from behind to take down the Washington College Shoremen 11-8 on Tuesday afternoon at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.

The Shoremen exploded for six runs in the third inning. Will Turner singled the first home with one out, then with two down five more came in on two bases-loaded walks, a Scooter SanFilippo two-run single, and an RBI base knock by Brady Wozniak. WAC tacked on another in the top of the fourth on a throwing error by the catcher to make it 7-0.

The Sea Gulls answered with a pair in the bottom of the fourth. With two on and two out, Ethan Ruiz and Andrew Kell tagged back-to-back RBI singles to get SU within 7-2.

Salisbury lopped a big chunk off the deficit in the seventh. With the bases loaded and one down, Jackson Inman walked to force in a run and BK Wilson brought in another on a sac fly. Jake Witter followed with a gapper to left center for a two-run double, bringing SU to one run back at 7-6.

The Shoremen got one run back in the top of the eighth as Turner legged out a run-scoring infield hit with men on the corners and two down, making it 8-6, but stranded the bases loaded and missed their chance for more.

In the home eighth, SU loaded the bases with one out on two walks and a hit batsman. That borught up Noah Burroughs, who ripped a bases-clearing double into the right center gap to vault the Sea Gulls into the lead. Inman followed with an RBI triple, and Wilson brought Inman home with another sac fly to cap a five-run frame and build the margin to 11-8.

Bryce Sterling shut it down from there, retiring WAC in order in the ninth to put it in the books.
