No. 8 Salisbury Baseball pounds Gwynedd Mercy, 15-4

SALISBURY, Md. – The eighth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team eclipsed 15 runs for the third time this season on the way to grounding the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins 15-4 on Tuesday afternoon at Genuardi Legends Field.

The Sea Gulls raced out to a five-run lead over the first two innings. In the first, Noah Burroughs and Danny Sheeler executed a double steal from the corners to allow Sheeler to swipe home. Trent Waire then opened up a four-run second with an RBI double that propelled SU to a 5-0 advantage.

Salisbury tacked on two more in the fourth, highlighted by a Dylan Winebrenner home run, and two more in the sixth before the Griffins finally got one back in the home sixth to make it 9-1. After the Sea Gulls countered with one in the top of the seventh, GMU managed to push three runs across with two out in the bottom of the seventh, including a two-run single by Ricky Templeton that made it 10-4.

SU shook it off and scraped one across in the eighth on a Jackson Inman RBI triple, then in the ninth Sheeler doubled home two, followed by a run-scoring wild pitch and a Winebrenner RBI knock to complete the four-spot, giving the Sea Gulls the 15-4 lead they would take into the clubhouse.
