PITTSBURGH, Pa. (March 26) – The Waynesburg University baseball team rallied late to force extra innings but fell 8-7 in 10 innings at La Roche on Wednesday afternoon.

The Redhawks (4-14) scored six runs, four unearned, in the third inning and led 7-1 after four. Trent Giraffa (Hanover, Pa. / Delone Catholic) singled home Dalton Mount (Sykesville, Md. / Westminster) in the fifth to make it a 7-2 ballgame.

The score remained a five-run margin into the eighth. Waynesburg (5-16) tied the game at seven with two bases loaded walks, a hit batter with the bases loaded and two runs scoring on wild pitches. When the dust settled, the Jackets scored five runs on two hits in the inning.

Nolan Dunn (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Carrick) sat down the Redhawks in order in the eighth and ninth innings, however Waynesburg went three up and three down in the ninth and 10th. 

La Roche scored the game winning run on an error in the 10th on a sacrifice bunt attempt following a leadoff double to collect the 8-7 win.

Both teams had nine hits in the ballgame, however six Jacket errors led to five unearned runs for La Roche.

Waynesburg used five different pitchers in the ballgame, none going more than 2.1 innings. Aydan Adamson (Carmichaels, Pa. / Carmichaels Area) and Zach Scibelli (Ravenna, Ohio / Ravenna) each turned two scoreless innings.

Mount and Giraffa each had two hits. Giraffa drove in two and scored once while Mount scored twice and dove in one. Alek Wagor (Manhattan, N.Y. / Cairo-Durham) had an RBI and run scored.

Waynesburg hosts Washington & Jefferson on Saturday in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
