Brevard, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan baseball team dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Brevard, falling 12-3 in game two and 5-4 in game three to conclude the series sweep at Gil Coan Field.
Game 2: Brevard 12, N.C. Wesleyan 3
The Bishops struggled to slow down the Tornados' offense, as Brevard jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The hosts plated two runs in the first inning before adding two more in the third on a two-run homer by Vasquez.
Wesleyan responded in the fourth inning when Javier Quintana delivered a two-run double to left center, cutting the deficit to 4-2. However, Brevard exploded for six runs in the bottom half of the frame, highlighted by a three-run home run from Jennings, extending thei advantage to 10-2.
The Bishops added its final run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Jacob Trivette, but Brevard tacked on two unearned runs in the eighth to secure the 12-3 victory.
Javier Quintana led the way for Wesleyan with a 2-for-5 performance at the plate, driving in two runs. Preston Workman (1-3) took the loss on the mound, allowing ten runs on nine hits over 3.2 innings.
Game 3: Brevard 5, N.C. Wesleyan 4
In the series finale, Wesleyan put up a fight but fell just short in a tightly contested 5-4 loss.
Brevard struck first with a two-run double in the first inning and added two more in the third to take a 4-0 lead. The Bishops battled back, scoring in the fifth when Seth Jones lined an RBI single down the left-field line.
Malachi Hayes grounded into a double play in the sixth, allowing another run to cross and trim the deficit to 4-2. Wesleyan kept the momentum in the seventh, tying the game at 4-4 behind a clutch two-run single from Quintana.
However, Brevard reclaimed the lead in the eighth on an RBI single by Granata, and the Bishops were unable to rally in the ninth.
Quintana once again paced the offense with a 2-for-4 effort, driving in two runs. On the mound, Clay Wardius (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing the go-ahead run in the eighth.
