Kalamazoo Wins Series Opener at Hope

HOLLAND, Mich, - The Kalamazoo College baseball team won the series opener 14-3 in seven innings at Hope College on Tuesday. The game was moved up a day due to a severe weather forecast on Wednesday.

Kalamazoo scored one in the first and three in the second to take a 4-0 lead. After Hope scored two in the third, Kalamazoo added five in the fourth and three in the fifth to go up 12-2. The Hornets added two in the top of the seventh to make it 14-2. Hope scored one in the bottom half before the game ended on the 10-run rule.

Kalamazoo had 15 hits in the game, while five Hornet pitchers held Hope to just four hits.

Logan LockhartCaleb MooreRobert Newland and Cade Preissing each had three hits.

Tanner Hawkins drove in three runs. Lockhart, Newland and Ryar Rinehart each drove in two runs.

Preissing and Cooper Mills each scored three times.

Mills, Lockhart, Moore, Newland and Preissing each stole a base.

Chase Cummins pitched the first three innings. Steven SheltonBlake ParpartOwen Schihl and Cole Bronoel-Cuthrell combined to allow just one run over the final four innings.

Kalamazoo (15-5, 3-1 MIAA) is scheduled to travel to Calvin next for a single game on Friday, April 4, at 4 p.m.
