Baseball Slugs Past Farmingdale State, 19-2

Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team erupted for 19 runs en route to a dominant 19-2 victory over Farmingdale State University on Thursday evening.

Chip Krese went 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBIs for Stevens (14-9), while Chris McGuggart homered for Farmingdale (9-7).

HOW IT HAPPENED

After a scoreless first inning, the Ducks opened the scoring in the bottom of the second. Kevin Villares singled to center with one out, and Krese launched the first pitch he saw over the right-center field wall, giving Stevens a 2-0 lead. Farmingdale cut the deficit in half in the top of the fourth when McGuggart sent an 0-2 pitch deep for a solo home run.

Stevens responded with three runs in the bottom of the third. Villares led off with a walk, followed by Kieran O'Brien, who also walked. Both runners advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Krese then dropped a single into center, extending the lead to 3-1. Aaron Wong followed with an RBI double down the right-field line, and Victor Schilleci capped off the rally with an RBI single.

The Ducks broke the game open with a seven-run fifth inning. Luke Mahala led off by getting hit by a pitch before stealing second. Villares drew a walk, and both runners executed a double steal. O'Brien then walked to load the bases. Schilleci was hit by a pitch to bring in a run, and Eli Somers singled to center for the first hit of the inning. Dylan Fishbough was hit by a pitch, forcing in another run, before Liam DeRubertis brought home two more with a single to left. After another double steal, Mahala capped off the inning with an RBI groundout.

O'Brien led off the sixth with a double to right before Krese walked. Pinch-hitter Edward "E.J." Balewitz Jr. then roped a double to right, plating O'Brien. The scoring continued as Somers launched a long home run to right field, extending the lead to 16-1. The Rams pushed across a run in the seventh on an RBI groundout, but Stevens answered with a run in the bottom half on a Cooper Poggioli single. Quinton Sterling then put the finishing touches on the blowout with a two-run homer in the eighth.
