Salve Regina defeats Anna Maria, 13-6

NEWPORT, R.I. (Thursday, April 24, 2025) -- #13/#14 Salve Regina University baseball defeated Anna Maria College, 13-6, in non-league action at Reynolds Field on the Newport campus. With their eighth-straight victory, the Seahawks lifted head coach Eric Cirella into the all-time leader list for career wins (319), passing his father, Steve Cirella, who finished his 14-year head coaching stint with 318 wins.

Middle infielders Christian Homa and Grady Schopps both went three for four at the plate with the former driving in four and scoring twice and the latter scoring three times and knocking in a pair of runners. Nolan Romanowski (W, 3-0) followed starter Brady Shea's three innings of work with four frames and no earned runs. Shea struck out five and Romanowski K'd three. Andrew Wertz pitched two scoreless innings and struck out a pair of AmCats.

History: Today marks the 58th meeting on the baseball diamond between Salve Regina and Anna Maria. The Seahawks lead the all-time series with a whopping .896 winning percentage (52-6). Last year's 15-5 win in eight innings at Reynolds Field was the first meeting between the two former CCC schools on the Newport diamond since 2010. Wil McCarthy went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three batted in. On April 3, 2001, Salve Regina lefty Scott Alexander struck out an NCAA-record 22 batters in a 12-0 victory over Anna Maria. The Seahawks went on to win the CCC crown and advance to their first appearance in the NCAAs.
