Titans take two on Tuesday

After combining for 36 runs in game one, Illinois Wesleyan needed an eighth-inning comeback in game two to sweep North Park in a CCIW doubleheader at Jack Horenberger Field in Bloomington. The Titans won game one 20-16 and 8-6.

The top-ranked Trinity (Texas) Tigers  opened its two-game road trip with a 7-0 shutout victory of McMurry. In the evening, they moved cross town to Hardin-Simmons where they defeated the Cowboys 16-4.

Kean pounded out 10 runs and 14 hits on their way to sailing past the College of Staten Island by the final of 10-1. Sal Taormina was 2-for-2 with four RBI to lead the Cougars who are now 13-9 on the season.  The loss drops CSI to 11-9 overall.

DeSales scored eight runs in the eighth inning breaking open a close game in a 14-6 win over Rutgers-Newark in non-conference action on a chilly afternoon at Butz Field. Preston Amato finished 2-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs, Tyler Sweeney dropped in three more hits, scored twice, and had two RBIs.

After being unable to comeback and dropping the completion of Saturday's game 12-8, No. 21 Wooster bounced back with a sweep of Allegheny by 8-2 and 10-3 scores at Art Murray Field, as the rivals split their NCAC East Division four-game series.

Colin Morse tossed a complete game seven-hitter as No. 8 Shenandoah topped Washington and Lee 4-1 in ODAC action. Morse earned his second victory over Washington & Lee this season with the Hornets first complete game of the season. Morse scattered seven hits and two walks while striking out two in turning in the victory.

In a back-and-forth game, the Tigers got the last strike, using a walk off single by Lee Carneal to down the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins 9-8. Hampden-Sydney had 12 hits to Virginia Wesleyan's nine. John Lloyd had a team-high three hits while Jacob Fontana and Carneal each had two.

Baruch started their CUNYAC schedule by splitting a doubleheader against the Bloodhounds of John Jay at the College of Staten Island baseball complex. The two teams were originally scheduled to play this past Sunday, but the doubleheader was rescheduled to Tuesday at Staten Island. The home team Bearcats won the opener. They stormed out to a 5-0 lead after the first two innings and held on to the narrow 5-4 win.

Willamette never trailed, but broke a 1-1 tie when Kyle Paguio scored in the bottom of the sixth inning on a single by Troy Conway, and the Bearcats went on to defeat Lewis & Clark, 2-1, in a non-conference game

Earlham tallied at least ten hits for the 14th time this season in a 6-1 win at Bluffton in HCAC action. The Quakers finished with 13 hits as a team and improved to 12-2 when reached the double-digit hit plateau. Walter Talcott, who garnered HCAC Pitcher of the Week recognition, earned his second consecutive complete game victory over the Beavers, having shutout Bluffton a week ago. The Lafayette, Ind., native fanned six batters while allowing just five hits over nine innings of work.

Wesley earned their fifth consecutive victory with a 7-1 win over the Widener Pride in a non-conference matchup. Eric Speidel went 2-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases while KeAndre Jones extended his hitting streak to 16 games. Ron Morello earned a pair of base knocks while Trevor Mears led the way with three RBI. Cody Simet went eight strong innings to earn the win, scattering seven hits and allowing just one run while striking out two. Alex Marrs finished the game coming in for a scoreless, hitless ninth.

Gavin Felty fanned seven in a complete-game six-hitter to lead Emory & Henry past visiting Guilford, 5-3, in ODAC action. Felty received offensive support from Carson Bryant and Holden Watkins, who had two hits apiece.

Case Western Reserve collected its seventh-consecutive win, defeating John Carroll 15-3 in University Heights, Ohio. Tuesday's game marked the seventh time this season that the Spartans have scored at least 10 runs in a game, and the third time in the team's last four games.

Covenant has been on a tear recently at the plate and that trend continued on Tuesday as the Scots mashed 15 runs on 15 hits to defeat Oglethorpe 15-3. Covenant, winners of seven of its last eight games,  has scored double-digit runs in four of the last five contests. Luke Harvey went 3-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs on the day, while Perry Rigby was 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs batted in.

In the first start of his career, Garrett Harstine pitched seven shutout innings and Jake Gordon drove in four as the Presidents took down Pitt-Greensburg, 7-0, in nonconference action. Gordon finished 2-for-4 with a pair of extra-base hits and a career-best four RBI.

A stellar starting pitching effort from Cory Ferguson coupled with some timely hitting from Hunter Lane proved to be a positive equation for Manchester. Ferguson kept a solid Defiance line-up at bay for seven full innings, surrendering only five hits and striking out one Yellow Jacket over the span to gain his first win of the season in the 5-3 final. Meanwhile, at the plate, the bat of Lane proved key for the home side.

Eric Brown spun a six-hit complete game and Gettysburg earned a convincing 12-1 Centennial Conference victory over Franklin & Marshall at a sunny and cold Kirchhoff Field.  The Bullets broke open a close game in the middle innings, scoring seven runs over the fifth and sixth to open up a 10-1 advantage.
