Guilford rallied from behind to secure a win and a tie against visiting Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon. The Quakers prevailed in game one, 11-10 in 10 innings, after a walk-off home run by Trevor Denton. The teams tied 4-4 in the nightcap. Darkness called the action after the scheduled seven innings. Guilford trailed 10-5 after 5.1 innings in the opener. Guilford then plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth frame. They added three runs in the eighth and then tacked on two in the ninth to tie the game. In the bottom of the tenth inning, Denton knocked a solo home run to center field off F&M closer Matt Devlin . Denton went 4-5 with four RBI in the victory. The Diplomats outhit the Quakers, 18-12. Franklin & Marshall's had a monster opening game from Dan Marano. He hit 4-6 with two home runs, scored three times, and had two RBI.
Ratrick Rood's three run shot was more than the Ducks needed as Stevens walked off against William Paterson as they won 7-4. Junior outfielder Donny Gherardi went 2-for-3 and scored a run for the Ducks. Gherardi Rood and senior first baseman Alex Detweiler combined for five RBI. Senior Drew Hanke got the win in relief, giving up one unearned run and a hit while punching out one during the eighth.
Wheaton (Ill.) opened its 2018 season with a doubleheader split at Birmingham-Southern. Ranked seventh in the preseason Top-25 poll by D3baseball.com, the Panthers won the opener on Saturday 5-3 but Wheaton used a seven-run second inning to take a lead it would not relinquish, en route to a 12-2 victory. The victory is Wheaton's first over an opponent ranked in the top-10 in at least a decade. Birmingham-Southern is now 4-3 on the season. Wheaton's 12 runs in game two came on 19 hits with one error. Birmingham-Southern was held to two runs on eight hits with one error. Ty Hoeksema earned the win for Wheaton, navigating a rain delay to last five innings, allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts. Alex Hanvey, Jacob Garrity, and Nick Johnson combined for four shutout innings of relief, allowing just three hits and two walks.
In a battle of nationally-ranked teams, No. 24 St. John Fisher opened the 2018 season with a split at No. 8 Johns Hopkins,1-7, 10-4, as the Cardinals produced 11 runs in all. In game one, Josh Hejka came out of the Johns Hopkins bullpen and shut down the Cardinal offense to earn awin as the St. John Fisher's bullpen imploded. Game two was a different story as a four pitchers combined to control the Blue Jay offense.

A wild opening game of the 2018 campaign helped John Carroll earn a split with Allegheny on the first day of competition for both teams played in Beckley, West Virginia. Bottom of the 15th, no outs, runners on second and third, down one, freshman Mike McCarty steps up to the dish and drives in two Blue Streaks giving John Carroll the 10-9 victory over Allegheny. In a wild finish, the Blue Streaks expected this after sending the game to an extra inning in the ninth and fourteenth innings. Whatever energy it took to win game one was spent for game two. The Blue Streaks fell behind early and lost by a 17-6 count in a seven inning game.

Methodist totaled 17 hits and overcame a six-run deficit to defeat William Peace 14-11 in USA South play. With the win, the Monarchs move to 9-1 overall and have won eight-consecutive games. It is the first time MU has started a season 9-1 since the 2005 season. The win also moved the Monarchs to 2-0 in league games. Meanwhile, the Pacers drop to 5-5 on the year and 0-2 in conference play. Clay Richardson was 3 for 4 with five RBI, two triples, three runs scored, a walk and a stolen base, while Jacob Austin finished 4 for 4 at the plate with a triple, a walk and scored three runs. Matthew Carter drove in a run and scored four times to go with two doubles and a triple. Additionally, David Cass recorded his first home run of the season.
Nationally-ranked Oswego State earned a thrilling 8-7 extra-inning victory in its season-opener at Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. No. 11 Oswego is now 1-0 while the Marlins fall to 5-3. Senior Robert Donnelly started and finished the most important inning for the Lakers, singling through the left side with one out in the top of the 10th. Classmate Zach Whelan followed with a single of his own to push Donnelly just 90-feet away. A sacrifice fly to left field by junior-transfer Brandon Nicholson proved to be the difference as he plated Donnelly to make it 8-7. Matt Bowman did his part to pick up the win on the mound. Another transfer-junior, Bowman tossed a perfect three innings in relief, including three swinging strikeouts in the bottom of the 10th to earn his first triumph in a Laker uniform. Bowman also induced four fly outs and a ground out.
Junior Nick Martinez and freshman Andrew Ollwerther each homered in the opener as Montclair State split a doubleheader with Mary Washington. Martinez drove in four runs and Ollwerther two as the Red Hawks (2-1) outslugged the Eagles (2-2) 12-6 in the first game before falling in the second contest, 2-1. The two teams wrap up their four-game series on Sunday.

Conner Clark and Nicholas Baham roped three hits apiece, while Josh Husby helped quiet the River Hawks with a solid outing in his first collegiate start as Christopher Newport picked up its third straight victory with an 8-1 triumph over Susquehanna on a warm afternoon at Captains Park. Leading the way at the plate, Baham launched his third home run of the season while also adding a pair of doubles. Meanwhile, Clark scored three times and stole three bags to go along with his three hits. Additionally, Seth Woodard knocked in two runs, while Andrew Suppa contributed a pair of hits to balance out a high-powered offensive attack. On the mound, Husby twirled a gem while striking out seven in six innings of work. Later, Brian Owens and Joe Burris came out of the pen to mop up with three pristine innings of relief.
Junior Matthew Kerber drove in five runs as Stevenson downed Wesley 9-7 at Ty Cobb Ballpark. Kerber finished 3-5 with a walk for the Mustangs. Senior John D'Aquanno had a pair of doubles and finished 3-5 with two runs scored, while sophomore Kevin Murray, Jr. and Jacob Norris each had two hits. Senior Michael Rhodes finished 3-5 at the plate. Sophomore Tyler Graham earned the win for the Mustangs, allowing four hits and four runs (three earned) in five innings, striking out two and walking four. Eric Prachniak entered with the bases loaded and no one out in the ninth and earned the save.
No. 1 Cortland defeated host Washington and Lee, 11-4, in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader. The second contest was halted by rain in the top of the fifth with Cortland leading 5-4 and officially goes as a "no game," with no winning or losing team and no statistics counted. Cortland stopped a two game kid and journeys to the Baltimore Invitational, hosted by eighth-raked Johns Hopkins, March 3-4. Cortland trailed 2-1 after six innings before exploding for 10 runs over the final three frames to earn the victory. Danny Coleman finished 4-for-4 with a homer, double, three RBI and three runs scored. Anthony Pragana was 2-for-2 and Matthew Personius was 2-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored. Jason Volpicelli led W&L with a 2-for-5 effort and three RBI. Austin Crane finished 2-for-4 and Chadwick Feeley was 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Pacific split a doubleheader with Willamette, dropping game one, 2-1 in 10 innings and winning the nightcap, 4-3. The doubleheader split keeps the Boxers a game out of first place in the Northwest Conference standings behind George Fox, who is 4-0 with a doubleheader to play on Sunday against Linfield. The Boxers are 8-5 on the season and 4-1 in the Northwest Conference. Also, the doubleheader split saw a seven-game winning streak end in the opening game. Five of the eight wins for Pacific have come at the friendly confines of the renovated Chuck Bafaro Stadium.
Senior Joseph Tuzzoloort had a two-run homer to cap a four-run fifth, and senior Cody Thompson tossed four innings of scoreless relief, as Randolph-Macon defeated Alvernia 5-2 on Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park. The Yellow Jackets earned their fourth win without a loss, while the Golden Wolves lost in their season opener. Thompson and junior Nick Roth combined to hold Alvernia to two runs. Roth worked the first five innings, scattering eight hits and allowing two runs with no walks and one strikeout. Thompson took over in the sixth and worked the final four frames, giving up three hits and one walk while fanning seven.
