Tyrone Patterson batted 3-for-4 with a triple and a home run in the season opener and Alexander Mondro struck out 10 in six shutout innings in game two as WPI swept Penn State Fayette, 10-5, and 7-0, Sunday at the Russmatt Invitational. Ryan Tropeano and Martin McCormack also had a pair of hits in the eye-opener including a triple by the upperclassman and a pair of RBI by the rookie. Steven Gallagher (sac fly, RBI), David Larson (RBI) and Austin Lindner (RBI) clubbed doubles. Larson and Benjamin Chaffee each stole a base. Doug Rives yielded three hits and a walk while striking out six in his season debut. Nick Tagaris struck out three in the final 2 1/3 en route to the save.
Senior starter Nick Marotta went six strong innings in the opener and senior catcher Alex Salesky delivered a walk-off hit in game two as Alvernia (3-1) swept a doubleheader, 8-1 and 3-2, from Elms (0-3) in non-conference action at Terry Park. Marotta scattered five hits and allowed one run with seven strikeouts and the Alvernia offense came alive with six runs in the top of the seventh to blow open what had been a close game to that point. Kyle Gaynor closed out the game with a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh.
Sophomore transfer outfielder Michael Cruz rapped a 2-run single in the seventh inning for the decisive blow, as Westfield State opened the 2019 season with a 6-5 win over Western New England at DiBennedeto Stadium at Trinity College. Cruz's knock capped a four –run inning for the Owls as they rallied from a 5-2 deficit for the win.
Stevenson did not let the 8am first pitch of game one of Sunday's doubleheader against the Massachusetts College of the Liberal Arts slow them down as junior starting pitcher Tyler Graham went out and delivered a four-hit seven-inning shutout over the Trailblazers 1-0. Then, in the second game of the morning, the Mustangs bats erupted scoring runs in all but two frames en route to a convincing 11-1 victory thus completing the weekend sweep at Sugar Field.
Bard collected a pair of wins, topping SUNY Brockport, 4-3 in game one and 10-5 in game two, to open the 2019 season. Bard's ace, Evan Richardson, earned the win in game one. The senior threw five innings, and allowed just one run on two hits. He also struckout three, while Zigner pitched the final two innings and collected the save. Ryan Chipman, Estanban Rivera and Rory Maglich each tallied two hits in the opening contest. Anthony Eaton led Brockport with three hits in the effort. Robert Arciola and Jordan Myers powered Bard in the second contest, finishing with three hits, two runs and an RBI apiece. Meanwhile, Maglich added two hits, while Frank Rybicki and Alex Luscher each finished with two hits and two RBIs.

Saint Joseph's (Maine) kicked off the 2019 campaign with a pair of victories over Northern Vermont - Lyndon (1-9). The Monks opened the season with a 9-6 victory and completed the sweep with a 10-5 nightcap triumph. Senior starter Grayson Jennings tossed just over two innings allowing four hits and five runs. Juniors Troy Bogdahn would get the win after pitching two innings and allowing three hits and a run while Jonathan Rolf earned the save. Freshman Matt Bergeron would collect his first collegiate win allowing seven hits and four runs on four errors in just over four innings.

Neumann wrapped up the week in Florida with a 2-1 walk-off extra-innings win over Clark. In the bottom of 10th inning, Joe Nepi reached on a fielders' choice and scored on a single by John Lindeborn to win the game. Nick Glebocki started the game and went the first 7.0 innings in the no-decision. He allowed one run on six hits and struck out seven. Jared Morris went 3.0 hitless and scoreless innings relief and got the win.
Penn State Behrend got the come from behind victory in the 2019 season opener, defeating Wilkes 8-4 in non-conference action over spring break in Florida. The Nittany Lions drew 15 walks in the nine innings of play, including two in a six run fourth that was the difference between a win or loss.
Seven different Valiants recorded at least two hits apiece, pacing a 20-hit afternoon for Manhattanville in a 19-13 over the Fredonia State Blue Devils in the finale of the team's 2019 Spring Break Trip. Freshman Tyler Viscusi, a day after tossing 3.2 scoreless innings on the mound, showed his prowess at the plate, leading Manhattanville (2-2) with four hits in five at-bats. Senior Luke Scoggins, sophomore Jack Matero, junior Peter Iannarill and sophomore Hathaway Roper all had at least two hits, two runs and two RBI's. Junior Matt Lynch added three hits, two runs and an RBI and fellow junior Luke Tebolt added two hits and three RBI's. Sophomore Luke Shaffer, primarily a third baseman last season, started in the pitcher/designated hitter slot, tossing four innings while going one-for two, scoring each of his three times on base. Tyler Phillips led Fredonia (2-2) with two hits, three runs and three RBI's.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps got a two-run single from junior outfielder Henri Levenson in the seventh inning of the nightcap to take a 7-6 win over Redlands and salvage a doubleheader split, after the Stags dropped the opening game by the same score in 10 innings. With the split, CMS moves to 3-5 overall on the season and 2-4 in the SCIAC, while Redlands moves to 7-9 overall and 3-3 in league play.
Thiel opened the 2019 Gene Cusic Classic with a 26-6 win over Rivier. The Tomcats opened the game down 1-0 as Rivier got on the board in the top of the first. In the bottom of the frame Nick Fowkes Took the first pitch he saw of the at bat deep to left field to give Thiel a 3-1 advantage. Fowkes would blast his second home run of the day in the fourth with the bases loaded to collect seven totals RBI's in the nonconference matchup. Fowkes' slam was part of an 11 run fourth inning, that would put the game out of reach. Anthonty Sebastian ended the day with four RBI's, while Alex Lam collected three on the day. In Thiel's opener 10 Tomcats collected at least one RBI against the Raiders. On the mound, Myles Metz collected his first collegiate win as the freshman went 2.2 innings only allowing three hits and no earned runs.

| Elizabethtown earned its first two wins of the season on Sunday in a doubleheader sweep of Muskingum. The Blue Jays came from behind to steal game one and held off the Fighting Muskies in game two for the sweep. Senior Brett Sherron had four hits, including three doubles and three runs batted in, as Lasell swept its season-opening doubleheader against Newbury, 9-2 and 11-1, in non-conference action at the New England Baseball Complex. Sherron had a single, a double and three RBIs in the opener, and added a pair of doubles in three trips to the plate in the nightcap. Four other Lasers had three hits apiece in the doubleheader – senior Chris Maringo, sophomores Harrison Silva and Wyatt Sihvonen and freshman Matt Motyka – with Silva cracking Lasell's first home run of the season in the nightcap. Junior Zach Handzel and senior David Marsell earned the victories on the mound for the Lasers, Handzel working five shutout innings in the opener, allowing just three hits, and Marsell going four innings in the nightcap, surrendering just one run on two hits.
Lebanon Valley used four pitchers to strike out a total of 17 batters to break the program record in the Flying Dutchmen's 11-6 win over Massachusetts Maritime Academy in LVC's spring break trip. The Dutchmen, who improved to 2-0 this season, also racked up 12 hits in the win, while the Buccaneers fell to 0-3. LVC's bats got off to a hot start, bumping the score to 8-1 in favor of LVC. after two innings. The Dutchmen made it 9-1 in the top of the fourth thanks to Ethan Hurd's RBI-double to deep center. In the bottom of the fifth, Mass. Maritime scored two off Kyle Kingsbury, but that's all the sophomore would allow in the inning, as he limited the Bucs to just three runs in five innings of work. Down the stretch, LVC's relief pitching was strong and the Dutchmen held off the Buccaneers en route to the 11-6 win.
Penn State Altoona grabbed its first win of the 2019 season at Lake Myrtle Park's Mickey Etherton Field, as the Lions split a doubleheader with Waynesburg. Penn State Altoona (1-5) suffered a hard loss in game one, losing 18-0. But the Lions bounced back in a big way in game two, posting a 10-1 victory over the Yellow Jackets (1-1).
Virginia Wesleyan closed out its three-game series with Rochester with a win, downing the Yellow Jackets 3-1 Sunday morning at Kenneth R. Perry Field. Jay Crusemire had a solid day on the bump, issuing two punch outs through the first 7.0 innings and picking up the win. Robert Cook would come in for the final two frames, collecting the save in the process.
LaGrange blanked Berea 8-0 in the final game of the two school's USA South series at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium. The Panthers (9-4, 4-1 USA South) took two of three games from the Mountaineers (4-6, 1-2 USA South). Three pitchers combined to throw LC's first shutout of the season. Austin Fain (1-0) started for the Panthers. He went five innings, scattering five hits, walked a batter and struck out six. Matthew Becker and Coston Anderson each threw two innings to close out the game, allowing only one hit. The Panthers had 12 hits on the day. Rhett Hollon, Liam Moreno, and Joe Ruth had two hits each. Hollon had a double included in his two hits. E.J. Churchich also had a double.

John Carroll won its first game of the day and its first of its annual Florida trip by a 9-3 score that provided the Blue Streaks their first 4-0 start since 2008. Although JCU would drop the second game of the doubleheader to Saint Mary's (Minn.), 10-7, but it was still a promising start to the week in the Sunshine State as the Blue and Gold produced 16 runs on the day.
A day after being shut out, Heidelberg responded in a big way. The Berg pounded out 13 hits and drew 10 free bases in a 13-6 victory over Moravian on a sunny Sunday in South Florida. Kyle Jenkins had a four-hit day, scored four times and played exceptional defense while Kane Bateman and Tyler Smith each had three hits. The offense production did not overshadow a strong start from Tristan Phillips, who went six strong innings.
USMMA earned wins over Hiram and Mitchell in a pair of nine-inning games on the Mariners' first day of the Cusic Classic down in Florida. The Mariners were trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning, when they scored two runs to take the lead on a double by senior Kyle Cunningham that plated sophomore Jacob Kelly as the tying run and classmate Vincenzo Alteri also came across as the go-ahead run after a costly error by the Terries' left fielder. The Mariners also got RBIs from Alteri and senior Jesse Reinebold. Senior Andrew Spinnenweber got the start and lasted six innings. Sophomore Andrew Hun earned the victory after pitching the seventh and eighth innings. Cunningham pitched the ninth inning to pick up the save. In the second game against Mitchell, sophomore Joe Raab got the "W" after six strong innings. Reinebold had three hits – a single, double and triple – and also knocked in a run on a fielder's choice.
Ohio Northern opened its 2019 season with a 10-1 win over Illinois College on Sunday afternoon at Osceola Heritage Park Field 2 as part of the Russ Matt Tournament. The Polar Bears (1-0) scored three runs in the third and four more in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead and cruised to the win. Sophomore Michael Rocco went 3-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored to lead a 13-hit ONU offensive performance. Sophomore Krue Thwaits doubled home junior Jake Gherardi in the fifth to put ONU ahead 8-1. Junior Jack Schaller allowed only one hit and one unearned run in 5.0 innings of work to earn the win on the mound and improve to 1-0 on the season. Junior Troy Wagner threw three shutout innings of relief to earn his first career save.
Two wins - one dramatic and the other not - made for a successful opening day of the 2019 season for the Muhlenberg. The Mules swept Emerson in Auburndale, Fla., coming back to win the first game 4-3 on a two-run homer by sophomore Robert Cappadona in the bottom of the sixth. They took the momentum into the second game, breaking out with an eight-run third en route to a 15-0 shutout (their biggest shutout win in eight years) behind the combined five-hit pitching of juniors Matthew D'Ambrosia and Jared Hildreth and sophomore Jack Dollinger.
Trine began its 2019 season with a two-game split against Anna Maria, winning the first game, 7-6, but falling to the AMCATS in game two, 4-3. The AMCATS got two of runs back in the sixth to pull to within a run, 7-6 in game one. After a scoreless bottom of the sixth by Trine, the Thunder defense recorded three straight outs in the top of the seventh to seal the one-run victory. In game two, Anna Maria grabbed the early lead and added an insurance run in the fifth, but the Thunder looked to rally with a two-run sixth inning that included a bases loaded walk by junior Nick Ricci and a run-scoring wild pitch later in the frame to make it a 4-3 game. But those would be the final runs scored by either team the rest of the way as Anna Maria hung on for the 4-3 final to get the split.
