| Iowa Wesleyan finished up their series against Eureka this afternoon. After splitting yesterday, the teams competed for the rubber match. The Red Devils bested the Tigers with a 25-7 win to take the series. Tufts scored its most runs in 32 years with a 30-2 victory over Salem State at Huskins Field on Monday afternoon. It's the most runs by the Jumbos since a 32-10 win against Colby in 1987. Tufts improved to 12-3 with today's win while the Vikings dropped to 8-7. During an incredible three-inning stretch this afternoon, Tufts scored 10 runs in the third, seven in the fourth and nine in the fifth (26 total). For the game overall they recorded 22 hits, took 12 walks, were hit by five pitches and benefitted from 11 Salem State errors. The Jumbos are averaging 7 walks a game through their first 15 games.
Junior shortstop Hayden Reyes lined a double down the right field line with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning lifting Montclair State to a 9-8 victory over Cabrini at Yogi Berra Stadium. Freshman Peter Cosentino finished 3-for-4 with three RBI as the Red Hawks (9-8) rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth before winning it on Reyes' walk-off in the 10th. The win was MSU's second extra-inning victory this season. Shaun Stackhouse drove in a pair of runs for the Cavaliers (17-5), who had their nine-game winning streak snapped.
Junior Nick Carlini homered and finished with two RBI and senior Dakota McFadden pitched eight strong innings as Keystone enjoyed a 5-3 road non-conference win at Alvernia at Angelica Park. Keystone finished with six hits on the day and took advantage of four Alvernia errors, scoring four unearned runs. Carlini finished 1-for-4 with a solo homer to left in the fourth and an RBI groundout in the eighth. Junior Ryan Callahan went 2-for-4 while McFadden and freshman Devin Reed both provided doubles. McFadden threw eight innings and allowed three runs while striking out nine for his second win of the spring. Sophomore Nathan Hinkley pitched the ninth to earn his first save of the season.
Senior infielder Luke Klinehoffer provided a walkoff RBI single in the opening game of an OAC doubleheader against Capital, guiding Ohio Northern to a season-series split with the Crusaders at Wander Field. The Polar Bears claimed game one 11-10 in 10 innings on the walkoff hit, but fell to Capital 5-1 in the nightcap. With Monday's split, ONU moves to 9-9 overall and rises to 1-3 in the OAC. Meanwhile, the Crusaders improve to 5-14 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Looking to continue their home dominance since 2013, No. 2 Concordia Chicago took to the field for the first time at home against the Marian Sabres. The Cougars had the offense going all day, pounding out 27 total hits to go along with five homers as they swept Marian by scores of 10-6 and 11-3 to extend their winning streak to 15. Matt Fauth led the way with five hits as five different Cougars hit homers and Bryan VanDuser had five RBI's on the day.
The Knox Prairie Fire split a doubleheader with Monmouth. After two scoreless innings, Knox broke through with three runs in the third inning thanks to a two RBI double by Brendan Powers and an RBI single by Kobe Shutter. Starting pitcher EJ Roncone held the Scots scoreless until the eighth inning when Monmouth loaded the bases. Stryker Davies worked out of the inning and pitched a scoreless ninth to seal the victory. The Prairie Fire struck first again in game two with a run in the top of the fourth inning, but the Scots responded with two of their own. Knox tied the score in the top of the sixth, but Monmouth again countered with a run. The Scots tacked on three more in the seventh and held on for the 6-2 win.
Kalamazoo won its MIAA opener 7-0 at No. 15 Adrian. Jordan Wiley, Chase Coselman, and Alex Fultz each had two hits in the game. Wiley scored twice while stealing three bases in the game. Coselman and Fultz each drove in two runs. Jack Brockhaus went the distance on the mound earning his first collegiate win with a one-hit shutout. Adrian's Korey Mazur had the Bulldogs only hit, a triple in the second inning. Brockhaus struck out nine while walking five.
Benedictine opened the home portion of the schedule with a pair of shutouts over visiting Lakeland, 4-0 and 12-0. Alexander Schram lowered his conference best ERA to 0.36 by spinning seven blank frames. He allowed three hits with a walk and eight strikeouts. Stephen Sewruk built on the momentum of Schram in the opener, going the distance in the second contest. Sewruk went the distance, striking out seven while allowing just three hits to go with a walk.
Behind a three-hit shutout by Jaime Kaye, Augsburg scored a 2-0 win over Concordia College-Moorhead in the opening game of its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Cobbers scored a 3-0 win over the Auggies in the second game. Kaye strong-armed the Auggies to a victory with his three-hit shutout, with five strikeouts against one walk. It's his third complete game of the season and first shutout in his fourth start of the season, improving to 3-1. It's his fourth career shutout and 15th career complete game in 27 career starts. The three hits allowed were the fewest by Augsburg in any game so far this season. Cole Christensen earned the second-game victory for the Cobbers, claiming 12 strikeouts in his four-hit shutout.
There is no fooling Hope at the plate right now. The Flying Dutchmen continued their season-long offensive tear on Monday during a 10-3 and 18-10 sweep at Olivet. Hope (15-1 overall) hammered out 28 hits, including a season-high 17 during the nightcap. The Flying Dutchmen now have recorded double-digit hits in six consecutive games and 12 of 16 this season. As a team, Hope is hitting .343. The Flying Dutchmen entered Monday ranked 12th in NCAA Division III in team batting average.
