Rose Hulman secures win, Texas-Dallas rolls

Adam Taylor's big day propelled the Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers to 3-0 on the season and past the Saint Mary's (Minn.) Cardinals 8-5 on Monday. Taylor finished 4-for-6 and earned the save on the bump with two strikeouts. The bullpen came up huge in the victory for Rose-Hulman (3-0). Korey Marlow (1-0) came out of the pen to earn the win. The left-hander went three shutout innings, giving up two hits, one walk and striking out five. Schuyler Wilcox also pitched well, going two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out two. Taylor finished off the game in the ninth inning, giving up one hit and striking out two. St. Mary's (Minn.) defeated Grove City 9-7 earlier in the day.

Hendrix continued its best start in program history and completed a four-game sweep of Saint Thomas (Texas) with two wins Monday at Warrior Baseball Field. The Warriors won the first game, 10-8, and second contest, 5-0. In game one, Hendrix overcame a 3-0 deficit. Hendrix tied a program record with 18 hits, including five doubles. In game two, Hendrix scored its second 5-0 shutout of the Celts in as many days. For the first time in his career, David Blackburn (2-0) threw a complete game and posted a shutout. He tossed a three-hitter with as many strikeouts. Hendrix (11-0) passed Grinnell (Iowa) for the longest active win streak in Division III and is tied for the fifth longest across all NCAA divisions.

Saint Vincent opened its 2022 season with a 12-6 win over the University of Dubuque at scenic Lake Myrtle Park. The Bearcats (1-0) out-hit the Spartans (1-1) 12-7 and broke open a one-run game by scoring four runs over the final four innings. Eight of SVC's nine batters recorded at least one hit, led by a 3-for-5 performance from Jayke Saiani and two hits apiece from Zach VonStein and Jeremy Kruezweiser. Kreuzewiser, Saiani, TJ Dailey and Billy Perroz each finished with two RBIs, while Julian Santana and Zach Barberich each scored three runs. Tyler Chrise earned the win in relief, throwing 4.0 innings and allowing just one run on two hits with two strikeouts. Casey Jones started and took the no-decision, allowing five runs on five hits with four K's in 5.0 innings.

Bridgewater (Va.) beat Caltech, 26-7, the program's largest margin of victory since beating Penn College, 25-0, in 2018. The game blew wide open in the third inning. After Caltech battled back for two runs, the Eagles would score eight in the third. Jeffery Snider drove in five runs on two hits, Timothy Hopson drove in four runs on two hits.

In a doubleheader Monday, Piedmont swept both contests over Elizabethtown to claim the series. Piedmont won in convincing 11-1 fashion in game one and held on thanks to Carter Ballstadt on the hill in the second game 8-7. In game one, it was a pitcher's duel early before the Lions' offense exploded. Piedmont totaled 11 runs on 12 hits scoring in each inning beginning in the third in the opener. In the nightcap, Piedmont scored in the seventh to open a two run lead. In the eighth inning, Ballstadt entered to pitch recording four strikeouts in the inning, leaving the bases loaded. The Blue Jays scored one in the top of the ninth and had two in scoring position with no outs before Ballstadt recorded two more strikeouts and a pop up to end the rally.

Neumann opened the 2022 season with a 10-7 win over the Apprentice School on Monday. Marcus White went 3-for-3 from the plate with two walks and two runs scored. Christian Diaz and Andrew Curran each also had three hits. Ryan Lopez and Shawn Vega each had two hits. Nate Griffin made his Neumann debut on the mound and went 6.2 innings for the win. He allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out three. Brennan Hatala went 1.1 innings. Kevin Wallace made his debut on the mound. Vic Mejia picked up his first collegiate save, finishing the ninth inning.

A four-run eighth inning proved to be the difference as East Texas Baptist University won game three  in their American Southwest Conference series over Howard Payne University, 8-7. ETBU is now 11-2 on the year and 9-0 in the ASC. Jagger Neely received the win in relief going the final three innings striking out two batters. H only allowed two hits and no runs for his first win. Jacob Sherman started the game and recorded eight strikeouts for the no decision giving up four earned runs. Chris Robinson and Brett Wagner each had two hits and one RBI in the game as both of them collected a home run. Nick Massarini had two RBI while Zachary McAdams and Nicolas Chavez had one RBI.

Northern Vermont-Lyndon wrapped up their stay in Florida with a doubleheader sweep of Finlandia University on Monday. The Hornets took game one, 13-8, then completed the sweep with a 6-4 victory in the nightcap. The Hornets improve to 2-7 on the season. The Lions are winless in four games this season. Hornet starter Carlos Rodriguez went five innings, allowing five earned runs while striking out six, to pick up the win. Brandon Hale started and took the loss for Finlandia. In game two, Will Perkins earned the win with his four innings of shutout relief. He only allowed one hit while striking out seven. Dale Ostermann picked up the save. Millikin won its seventh straight game defeating the College of St. Scholastica 5-4 at the Workman Family Baseball Field in Decatur. For the second straight day, the Big Blue won in walk-off fashion. Pitch hitter Kelby Golloday had a one out single to start the ninth inning rally. Pitch runner Hunter Smith advanced to second on a wild pitch. Tommy Shaw walked and Liam McGill singled to load the bases. Frank Bryan delivered the game winning single to left field to driving home the winning run. Bryan scored the winning run on Sunday on a wild pitch.

Dru Didway busted open a 3-1 game in the sixth with a grand slam as the Eagles won game three against McMurry University 14-12 Monday. The Eagles generated two runs in the second frame and then added another run in the third to maintain a 3-1 lead. Neither team would score until the sixth. Leading 11-2, the Eagles plated three more runs in the top of the seventh on a Luke Morrison RBI single and a Kegan Kennedy two-run single. McMurry answered with five runs in the bottom of the seventh to make it 14-7. The Eagles went scoreless in the top of the eighth, and then McMurry made things interesting in the bottom half of the inning by scoring five runs on one hit, which came on a grand slam. Heading into the ninth, the Eagles still led 14-12. In the bottom of the ninth, Josh Ropple struck out three straight to end the game. The Eagles pounded out 15 hits. Carlos Castillo went 4-for-6 with two RBI. Didway drove in four runs on one hit. Grant Cross took the win after tossing six innings and striking out five.
