Senior Avery Spicer slid head first safely into first base, popped up, tossed his helmet in the air and was mobbed by his teammates after his ground ball fielder's choice to second base brought home the game-winning to lift Averett University past N.C. Wesleyan College 9-8 in an 11-inning marathon Sunday at Owen-Fulton Field. Knotted at 8-8 entering the bottom of the 11th inning, junior Nolan Maccabe singled up the middle to get Averett (10-17, 4-5 USA South) going. Senior Brandon Hatcher drew a walk to put two aboard for senior Jason Maggs, whose flyout to right field moved Maccabe to third base with one out. Spicer then hit a slow chopper to second base, but beat out the throw to first base to avoid a double play and give the Cougars a walk-off win while handing N.C. Wesleyan (15-10, 8-1 USA South) its first conference loss of the season.

For the second time this week, No. 1 ranked Marietta College defeated No. 21 Denison University in non-conference action.The Pioneers posted a 7-2 win on Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Park. Marietta beat Denison in Granville on Tuesday. The Etta Express has won five straight games and is now 19-3 on the season. Denison falls to 11-7 overall. Marietta scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and never trailed in the game. Brett Carson started on the mound and worked 4.0 innings giving up two runs on six hits. He walked three and struck out five. Denison's first two batters in the fifth singled off Carson sending Marietta to the bullpen for All-American closer Sam Mathews. Mathews got the first batter he faced to groundout allowing Colaco to score from third making it 5-2. Mathews (2-0) would shutout the Big Red the rest of the way for the win. He pitched 5.0 innings and allowed no runs on three hits with four strikeouts.

The Webster Gorloks, who swept their doubleheader
yesterday against the Blue Jays, were able to
complete series sweep with a 9-2 win to improve to
14-5 on the season and 4-2 in SLIAC play. With the
loss, Westminster falls to 4-17 on the year. It was a
historic day for Ben Swords as he recorded his 227th
career hit in the top of the ninth to become the all-time
hits leader in Gorlok baseball history. Pat McSheehy
previously set the record of 226 in 2002.

Great things continued to happen for Wooster at Adrian College's Nicolay Field, as the site where the Fighting Scots clinched their last two berths to the NCAA Div. III "World Series" was where the Black and Gold won 14-5 over the Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon. Wooster (10-6) roughed up relief pitcher Trevor Usher (0-1) in the second inning and pinned another crooked number on Adrian in the sixth as they went on to win 14-5. Looking back, Wooster captured the Mideast Regional titles at Nicolay Field in 2009 and 2018.

Suffolk kept a Lasell comeback at bay to take the opener of a non-conference twinbill, 6-5, Sunday afternoon at East Boston Memorial Park. George Breslin picked up the win. Suffolk's starter went 6.0 innings in which he allowed five runs, four earned, on six hits and five walks with one strikeout. Casey Sullivan secured the save with 1.0 inning of scoreless, hitless relief with one strikeout. Half of Lasell's four runs came off bases loaded walks, which propelled the Lasers over Suffolk, 8-3, in game two of an out-of-league twinbill.

Sam Mills capped a five-run fourth inning with a two-out, two-run double, and Oglethorpe took the rubber game against Millsaps, 10-7, Sunday afternoon at Hermance Stadium. The win was the Stormy Petrels' fifth in the last six games. Oglethorpe (13-14, 6-6 Southern Athletic Association) battled back from a deficit twice in the early going before surging into a lead it would not relinquish in the fourth. The Stormy Petrels held the lead the rest of the way, but Millsaps managed to keep the game close all the way to the end. Harry Paul made the start on the hill and pitched effectively for four and two-third innings before Grant Guinther pitched a superb relief role across the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth, allowing only two hits and two walks in three and two-third innings. Guinther earned the winning decision to improve to 5-1.

Mitchell College battled to a 10-3 victory over WPI on Sunday afternoon in a nine-inning, non-conference showdown. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was canceled due to rain. The Mariners (18-6 overall) finished with eight hits and drew nine walks to score in double digits for the third straight game. Dougie DelaCruz and Hunter Yaworski each recorded a pair of hits, and the duo slammed back-to-back homers in the sixth inning. Starting pitcher Eddie Kaftan went 6.0 innings and improved to 3-2 on the season while reliever Sam Majewski tossed 3.0 scoreless innings of relief to close out the win. The Engineers (10-8 overall) put up 10 hits on the day but stranded 12 runners on base. Dylan Connors, Jeffrey Brennan and Kyle DeRoma contributed two hits apiece. Starting pitcher Andrew Gray lasted only 2.0 innings and yielded six runs (four earned) on four hits while striking out two and walking four.

Sophomore Janek Lukszahit a solo home run over the fence in left-center field in the top of the eighth inning to drive in the go-ahead run and sophomore Cam Seymour pitched a solid 1.2 solid innings of relief to earn the win as the University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the Wheaton College (Mass.) Lyons 4-2 in a non-conference game Sunday afternoon at Ed Flaherty Field. Luksza's home run was the first of the season for the Huskies' shortstop, starting a three-run bottom of the eighth for USM for its second straight win. USM starter senior James Sinclair had a solid outing pitching 7.1 innings and allowing one earned run on seven hits and a walk while striking out five.

Maine-Farmington pounded out 23 hits off Curry College pitching and triumphed in a 13-12, 11-inning affair over the Colonels, Sunday afternoon at Vallely Diamond. UMaine-Farmington (1-12) and Curry (7-7) played through four lead changes and four ties, combining for 39 hits with 16 different pitchers taking the mound for the two teams. Curry tied the game at 11-11 in the bottom of the ninth and forced extra-innings, after the Colonels' Brett Heggs was pushed across on a two-out bases loaded walk issued to Andres Ramos. Both the Beavers and the Colonels scored single runs in the 10th inning, with Will Cauchon lacing a single through the left side to drive in Bartell for the UMaine-Farmington run. In the 11th inning, Johnson reached on a lead-off single to center off Curry reliever Zach McCarthy, and Lucas Tuttle came in as a pinch runner for Johnson. With one out, Hunter LaBossiere belted a double to right center, allowing Tuttle to score. LaBossiere was singled over to third by Jonny Pruett, but McCarthy induced a ground out and strike out to limit the UMaine-Farmington lead to one run, 13-12. That single run would be all the Beavers would need. UMaine-Farmington reliever Anthony Boyle retired Curry in order in the home half of the 11th inning, including a strikeout on Ramos, to clinch the Beavers' first win of the 2022 season and Boyle's first collegiate victory.

Trinity (Texas) finished off a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series sweep by defeating the University of Dallas 12-4 on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers improved to 16-7 overall and 8-1 in SCAC play with the win, which ties Trinity atop the SCAC standings. Trinity scored seven runs in the seventh and eighth innings to pull away for the win, though Dallas had fought back to within a run at 5-4 in the fifth. Harrison Durow improved to 3-0 this season after coming on in relief in the fifth. Durow finished out the game allowing just one hit over 4.2 shutout innings, striking out eight batters. Tyler Pettit went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Tanner Haney notched a pair of hits and a team-best three RBI.

Greensboro finished off a three game road series at William Peace on Sunday, taking the rubber match 8-6. Following up on Saturday's win, the Pride improve to 8-14 on the year after a stellar effort from starting pitcher McKinnon Martinelli, who went 7 1/3 innings and allowed just one earned run in the win. Greensboro limited the Pacer offense to just eight hits on the afternoon, most of which came in the later innings with GC in the drivers seat. A four run 7th inning for the Pride proved to be the difference. Adam Weber's 2-4 day from the dish with two pivotal RBI paced the Pride offense, who gritted out eight runs on five hits for the afternoon.

New England College came out slugging as the Pilgrims rout the Owls of Keene State College, 16-6, in non-conference action at the Owl Athletic Complex Sunday afternoon. The Pilgrims jumped out to an early lead and grow the lead to 10-0 in the top of the fourth before expanding to 13-0 after six innings. Wyatt Cameron picked up his first win of the year, as he threw 5.0 innings of one-hit baseball while also striking out nine. NEC won five of their last six games, as they have outscored their opponents 57-27.

Beloit College took the three-game series against
Knox College after splitting with the Prairie Fire
Sunday. Knox took the first game of the twinbill
with a walkoff 5-4 before Beloit came back with
a 14-4 (7 inn.) win in the nightcap.

Northern Vermont University-Lyndon rode a strong pitching performance from Matt Page and Dale Ostermann to victory in the opener of Sunday's non-conference doubleheader at Lesley University. After the 3-1 Hornet win, the hosts bounced back to take the nightcap, 11-4. The split leaves Lyndon at 3-14 on the season, while Lesley sits at 10-14 overall. Page picked up the win with one of his best starts as a Hornet. He went five strong innings, allowing only one run and three hits while striking out three. Ostermann came on in relief to throw two scoreless innings and pick up the save. Trailing 9-1, Lyndon got closer with three runs in the top of the fifth inning in the night cap. Jacob Nemergut picked up the complete game vistory for Lesley, allowing no earned runs and four hits and striking out two. Mahoney started for Lyndon and took the loss.

No. 25 UW-Stevens Point (11-2, 3-1) exploded for 39 run in a doubleheader sweep of Finlandia (3-13, 0-6) on Sunday. UWSP won game one, 17-0, and completed the sweep in game two, 22-1, both in seven innings. UWSP belted six home runs on the day, Aaron Simmons clubbing one in each game. Anthony Tomczak hit his first collegiate long ball. Bradley Comer, Lucas Luedtke and Payton Nelson also homered. Simmons and Logan Matson led the way with six RBI each. Luedtke added five with Tomczak and Matt Baumann contributing four each.

Maryville needed a Sunday win to get a USA South series victory, and the Scots held on for a 10-8 triumph over Huntingdon at Scotland Yard. Two-out magic was the theme of the day as Maryville scored eight of its 10 runs after two were out. The Scots bounced back from Saturday's 10-2 loss to score runs in six of their first seven turns at bat. "Two-out hits and two-out runs are huge, especially on Sundays in conference play," Maryville head coach Clint Helton said. "That carries momentum and you've got to keep your foot on the gas. Sundays you've got to score 10 runs." The win pushes the Scots to 17-8 overall and 3-3 in the USA South. That's fifth in the Western Division standings (top four make the postseason tourney), and Helton knew this was a big one if the Scots wanted to stay within shouting distance. "We knew as coaches it was a big deal, but we didn't make it a big deal in the dugout," Helton said. "We asked them to play loose but keep it focused, and they responded after Saturday."

The Franciscan Barons made the Sunday road trip to Westminster to try to salvage one game out of the three game season series. They would go to Patrick Wallace on the mound to try to neutralize a very potent Titans offense that scored 25 runs on Franciscan on Saturday. This would be a big offensive day for both teams, but the Barons would prevail, 14-9. Ryan Scavnicky went 4-5 with five RBIs and a run scored. Brendan Burke returned to the lineup with four RBIs of his own. Starter Patrick Wallace lasted three innings with three strikeouts. Jacob Whitmore came in and earned the win, as he pitched three strong innings. Daniel Halsey earned his first save of the season with three scoreless innings of work.

George Fox earned another series win on Sunday after breaking out the big bats against Whitman in a 12-5 win. Spencer Roos threw out a runner attempting to steal and raised his average by nearly 60 points with an impressive weekend, capping it by going 2-4 with two RBI, a double, and a run scored. Meffert and Miller stole two bags apiece to help the Bruins inch closer to the single-season school record of 89 set in 2005. After his initial stumble in the first, Wills finished the game with four scoreless innings and two strikeouts, and Meffert pitched a scoreless ninth with a strikeout. "This is a great series win -we got down early but Ben was able to throw up a couple of zeros which gave us a chance to get back into the game," coach Kevin Kopple said. "Offensively we had some really good ABs and were able to be aggressive on the bases."

With one out in the bottom of the 10th inning, junior infielder Trey Haley delivered a walk-off triple to give Case Western Reserve University a come-from-behind 8-7 win over Brandeis University at Nobby's Ballpark in Cleveland, Ohio on Sunday afternoon. Case Western Reserve trailed for the entire game and needed a run in the ninth inning to extend the contest. Sophomore third baseman/pitcher Zack Carinci led the frame off with an infield single. First-year outfielder Nick Harms delivered the game-tying hit, a double to right center field that scored Carinci. Harms attempted to stretch the double into a triple but was thrown out at third base. The next two Spartans were retired, sending the game to extra innings.

MSOE continued their long homestand on Sunday afternoon when they welcomed Concorida Chicago to MSOE Raiders Stadium for each team's NACC opener. The Red & White took care of business and started conference play with a 2-0 record after a clean sweep of the Cougars. Concordia Chicago (5-9, 0-2 NACC) took control early in the opening game of the twin bill against MSOE (7-8, 2-0 NACC) but the Red & White plated five runs to take the lead. CUC wouldn't go down easily though but Nolan Vincent came on in relief to get the two inning save and Jeffery Stanish picked up his third win of the season out of the bullpen. No extra drama was needed in game two. MSOE immediately put up a five spot in the bottom of the first and only allowed three CUC runs to score the rest of the way. Josh Beier had the big blow in the first with an bases clearing double, and the Raiders added another run in the fifth before plating two more in the eighth. Tyler Gronert went the distance to pick up his fourth win of the season. He struck out ten and allowed only six hits as the Raiders sweep the Cougars with a five-run win.

Ripon extended their season-long win streak to six games Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of Illinois College. The Red Hawks won the first game 7-3, before also winning the second 8-5, to improve their conference record to 5-0 on the year. In the first game of the day, Nick Tenny led all players with three hits, while Nick Terrell recorded two base knocks including his fifth home run of the season and 14th of his career. Brock Warren (2-0) earned the victory, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out nine in seven innings of work. Ripon picked up where they left off in game two, taking a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Illinois College got one run back in the third, but it was not enough, as Brock Warren and Jake Pankratz connected on back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the third to extend Ripon's lead. Samuel Ott added a bases loaded double in the bottom of the eighth, clearing the bases in what turned out to be the difference in the game.

Skidmore College established itself as the Liberty League East front runner with a convincing 16-3 win over Union College Sunday at Castle Diamond. The win completed the 3-0 weekend sweep of the Dutchmen. The Thoroughbreds are 15-2-1 overall, 4-1 Liberty League play and 3-0 in the Liberty League East standings. Union is 7-9, 2-4 and 0-3. Skidmore is 8-1-1 over its last 10 games. Skidmore took over early, sending 11 batters to the plate in the first inning. The Thoroughbreds scored five runs on only two hits, taking advantage of five walks, a hit batter and a pair of wild pitches. Skidmore starter Ameer Hasan shook off the extended time on the bench, while his team was batting around in the first and third innings. He efficiently retired 11 straight batters after a first-inning double, before giving up a pair of runs in the fifth. He moved to 4-0, allowing two runs on five hits with a walk and five strikeouts over eight innings.

Rockford University (6-4) opened NACC play on
Sunday by splitting a pair of games at Edgewood
College (9-6). The opener was highlighted by the
outstanding pitching performance of Jared Herzog.
Herzog held an Eagle offense that had been averaging
almost ten runs over its last eight games, to just two
runs and three hits. He also struck out a season-high
eleven hitters. In game two Aaron Monti's pinch-hit,
three-run home run that was the story. Unfortunately,
it was not enough, as Rockford dropped the nightcap by
a final score of 10-5.

Ithaca College took the Liberty League finale at St. Lawrence University on Sunday afternoon with a 9-3 win at Tom Fay Field to take two-of-three against the Saints. Ithaca is now 14-5 on the season and 3-2 in the Liberty League. Ithaca raced out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and added another run in the top of the third. St. Lawrence cut its deficit in half, 4-2, in the bottom of the third with a two-run home run to centerfield. The Bombers got those runs back in the top half of the fifth and put the game away with two runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh to account for the 9-3 final. Nicholas Cutaia went 3-for-4 in the contest with four RBI. Colin Leyner picked up the win in 6.0 innings of work as he struck out seven and allowed three earned runs on four hits.

Washington & Jefferson College scored a season-high 17 runs Sunday to complete a three-game sweep of Bethany College in Presidents' Athletic Conference play. W&J extends its current winning streak to eight games. The Presidents are 7-0 in PAC play and 14-6 overall. Tyler Horvat and Nate Rush led off the game with a pair of singles to set the tone for W&J's hitting in the finale. W&J effectively put the game away in the top of the third inning. The Presidents recorded nine runs on nine hits in the inning. Zaas drilled a three-run home run, his third homer of the season, during the outburst. Peter Kalinski and Rush each produced three-for-four efforts at the plate. Kalinski finished with four RBI and three runs scored. Jameson Campbell tossed 5.0 innings while striking out seven and just walking one. He improves to 4-1 on the mound this season.

UW-Stout finished a four-game sweep over UW-Eau Claire, taking wins of 3-0, 11-10, Sunday at the First National Bank of River Falls Field. Cody Urban pitched a complete game shutout in the opener, scattering six hits and striking out five. The teams combined for 27 hits in the second game, Eau Claire with 14 and Stout 13. Both teams committed two errors. Charlie Szykowny had three RBI in the contest and went 2 for 4. Ethan Kjellberg pitched 7.1 innings of relief ball to score the win, coming in with two outs in the first inning. Kjellberg struck out five. Stout will put their perfect conference record on the line when they travel to UW-Oshkosh, Saturday.

Completing the season series with Millikin University, North Central College scored 14 runs on 16 hits to take down the Big Blue on Sunday afternoon, 14-4, winning their seventh straight game. tarting pitcher Luke Lamm settled in after Millikin scored a run in the top half of the first inning. Lamm earned his fourth win of the season as he threw 6.0 innings, allowing four runs and striking out three. Beverly drove in four runs and scored three on the day. Beverly, Rios, and Patterson all recorded three hits in the game.

Dominican University swept Monmouth College on Sunday by scores of 10-1 and 10-9, respectively, in non-conference play. Hayden Young (3-0) pitched a gem, striking out six and surrendering just one earned run in 7.2 innings on the bump. Carson Harvey and Dalton Rogers pitched 1.1 scoreless to finish off the convincing victory for DU in the lid-lifter of the twin-bill. The Stars scored nine runs in their first three innings to provide Young a sizeable lead. Jake Polonus led the offensive effort with two RBI, adding a walk and a run scored. The second game of the day saw Dominican build another big lead early as the Stars raced out to an 8-1 lead after 3.0 innings. Monmouth chipped away, however, scoring six runs in the final two innings, but it was not enough as DU finished off a 10-9 win to sweep the series. Diedrich led the offense with a three-run homer in the first. Downing picked up two more hits and scored twice from the lead-off spot.

No. 10 ranked UW-Whitewater continued Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Sunday with a pair of wins against UW-Oshkosh at Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium. The Warhawks (11-4 overall, 3-1 WIAC) defeated the Titans 3-0 in the first game before concluding the day with a 6-3 triumph. In Game 2, UW-Whitewater plated four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to turn a 3-2 deficit into a three-run advantage. First baseman Nick Paget tied the game with a run-scoring double and a ground ball by Zach Campbell gave UW-W the lead. Pinch hitter David Rubin knocked a two-out, two-run single down the right field line for a pair of insurance runs. Sam Vomhof, who doubled to lead off the eighth, pitched around a two-out walk in the top of the ninth for his second save of the year. Cade Berendt improved to 3-0 on the season by tossing a scoreless eighth. He relieved Kade Lancour, who struck out eight batters and allowed one earned run over seven innings. The two teams were held scoreless over the first 5 1/2 frames before UW-Whitewater took a 2-0 lead in the sixth thanks to a run-scoring double by Paget and a two-out, RBI single up the middle by designated hitter Matt Korman. UW-Oshkosh (6-8, 1-3) scored three times in the top of the seventh and had two runners on with one out in the top of the eighth. Berendt induced a flyout before ending the inning with a strikeout to set up UW-W's comeback. In the opener, Westin Muir and Eli Frank combined for a three-hit shutout and the Warhawks tallied twice in the bottom of the first and once in the bottom of the fifth.

Dean College earned a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference wins over Rivier on Sunday. The Bulldogs took game one 6-2 and followed with a walk-off 14-13 victory in game two. Dean has won four in a row to improve to 4-12 overall and is now 2-1 in the GNAC. Tyler McAloon went the distance with two runs on seven hits and nine strikeouts to get his first win of the season. The second game featured 27 runs and 25 hits. Trailing 13-12 in the bottom of the seventh, junior Brian Dovidio came around on a single and a throwing error with the game-tying run. Gallagher then delivered the walk-off hit that scored senior Chaz Stolba with the winning run.
