Ignatowski Named NWU head coach

LINCOLN, Neb. - Eric Ignatowski has been named the next head baseball coach at Nebraska Wesleyan University, Dwight Merilatt, director of athletics, announced today. 

"We are excited to welcome Eric and his family to Nebraska Wesleyan," Merilatt said. "His overall depth of recruiting experience and his ability to be a players' coach was a critical component of our selection process. His baseball coaching and management experience, will truly allow us to continue the positive advancement of our baseball program."

Ignatowski comes from Millikin University where he served as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Big Blue since 2013. Under his direction, the Big Blue had the program's best regular season finish in school history in 2022 with a second- place finish in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW). In 43 games, the Big Blue outscored their opponents 284-to-217 (a 18-run improvement from 2021), threw five shutouts and finished with a 27-16 record. Six Big Blue earned CCIW All-Conference players and two were named All-Region. 

"I am very excited to become the next head baseball coach at Nebraska Wesleyan," Ignatowski said. "I am excited about the direction and vision Dwight had of not only the baseball program, but the entire athletic department. My family is eager to join the Nebraska Wesleyan family and fan base. I look forward to hitting the ground running and working with some really great players." 

Ignatowski was the head coach for the Park Ridge Padres and Des Plaines Indians in the Metro Collegiate Summer League from 2012-2014, after joining Eureka College as an assistant coach in 2011. He was a four-year member of the baseball program at Concordia University Chicago and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science in 2011. 

Ignatowski will start in early December.
