| Washington & Jefferson scored early and often in a Presidents' Athletic Conference sweep of visiting Geneva Wednesday afternoon at Ross Memorial Park. A four-run seventh inning sparked Ursinus past No. 2 Salisbury by a 6-3 score on Wednesday afternoon. This marks the first ranked victory for the team since sweeping #11 Johns Hopkins in April of 2019. Junior Jared Minnichbach started on the mound for Ursinus and allowed just one earned run on three hits over three innings of work. Meanwhile, senior right-hander Casey Murphy earned the win in relief pitching the final six innings of action while scattering six hits, one earned run, and striking out five batters. At the plate, sophomore Jordan Williams and senior Solomon Griffith each recorded multi hit performances while combining for three runs scored. Senior outfielder Tom Snipes tallied two base hits and a team-high three RBIs as he currently leads the club with 14 RBIs this season.
No. 8 UW-Whitewater opened its 2023 campaign with a 9-3 win over Spalding in the Studer's Blue Wahoo Challenge in Pensacola, Florida. Gabe O'Brien was a perfect 4-4 in the batter's box with a pair of doubles with four runs batted in to lead UW-Whitewater. Sam Vomhof and Jacob DeMeyer added three hits each for the Warhawks. Cade Berendt was tapped for the starting allowing three runs in five innings of work while striking out six. Eli Frank registered the win in 3.1 shutout innings of relief work fanning seven while allowing just two hits.
First year Grayden Harris tossed a four-hit shutout in game one and senior Jackson Hornung unleashed a grand slam in game two for Skidmore in a doubleheader sweep (5-0, 6-2) of Western Connecticut State on Wednesday. Harris struck out eight batters, with at least one in each inning, and threw 74 percent percent of his 94 pitches for strikes to go the distance and earn his first collegiate win. He retired the first 11 batters he faced and allowed just two batters to reach base until the Wolves singled twice in the seventh. He bared down, getting a punch out before ending it by inducing a foul out. Hornung's second no-doubt homer of the week was hit against the wind to dead left field after the Thoroughbreds loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the fourth inning. Hornung finished the game 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases. He also swiped a bag in game one, finishing the day with three.
For the time in program history, John Jay scored 20 or more runs in a game, but for the first time in program history, the Bloodhounds reach the 30 run plateau, defeating the Yeshiva Maccabees 34-0 on Wednesday night from Maimonides Pak. With the win, the Bloodhounds move to 2-11 overall on the season while Yeshiva falls to 0-9. Seven Bloodhounds produced a multi-hit performance in Wednesday's non-conference tilt, led by Michael Mauro and Michael Manzoeillo, who each recorded four hits. Six John Jay players had multi-RBI games, led by John Spallin, who batted in a career-high six RBIs. Thomas Salerno scored six times while Manzoeillo crossed the plate five times.
Conor Smith led off the fifth inning with a home run to begin a big three-run inning for Lebanon Valley in an 8-1 victory over visiting Nichols on Wednesday afternoon at McGill Field. The Bison (1-8) loaded the bases in the second inning before Tony Bennage entered the game and got out of the jam with a strikeout. The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning when Smith came up and drilled the first pitch of the inning into the LVC (4-8-1) bullpen in right field.
Powered by balanced hitting and pitching, Oneonta picked up 9-2 and 10-6 wins over Maine-Farmington on Wednesday afternoon at the RussMatt Invitational. The Red Dragons rolled in the opener, scoring in the first four innings, building a 9-0 lead. After the fourth inning, neither side would score until the seventh inning, when the Beavers put two runs on the board. Sargent singled to bring two RBI in from Coombs and Subervi. The Beavers loaded the bases, but the final batter grounded out to end the game. The Beavers brought six runs in the first two innings to take a 6-0 lead to start game two. Oneonta would once again put a four inning run where they scored in each inning to erase the deficit and lead by four, 10-6.

Led by three multi-hit games by the freshman class, the 16th-ranked Christopher Newport Captains improved to 17-5 overall this season with an 8-3 win over N.C. Wesleyan (10-4) on Wednesday afternoon. Josh Reinhold (2-3), Sam Benedict (2-3), and Ayden Stuffel (2-4) led the Captains with six of the team's ten hits against the Battling Bishops. Scott Crosson saw a 16-game hitting streak come to a close but still contributed at the plate by walking and scoring a run in the first and adding a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the second inning. Crosson finished 0-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI while extending his on-base streak to 17 games. Reinhold continued his incredible performance in his first year by reaching base for the 21st straight game.
Senior Ben Tobio recorded an RBI on two hits and scored two runs as Stevens defeated Babson 3-2 in ten innings on Wednesday afternoon in the finale of the Snowbird Baseball Classic. The Ducks (9-5) won their third straight game in Florida, finishing the trip with a 3-2 record. Wednesday's contest was also the first extra-inning game of the season for Stevens. The Ducks are now 2-1 in extra-inning games across the last three seasons. Brant Savage recorded a hit and an RBI to lead the Beavers, who fell to 2-7. Michael Cook also recorded two hits in the game for Babson. Wednesday's contest is believed to be the first meeting between the programs.
Rookie Tyler Provost led all players with five RBI as Kean topped Centenary (N.J.) by the final of 14-5 on a windy Wednesday afternoon. Sean DuBois (1-2) collected his first win after tossing five innings allowing three runs and six hits. Nick Rappa collected a save after working four innings of relief. Offensively Provost was 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored while Phil Marcantonio was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, two walks and two RBI. Pellone registered two hits and scored four times. Marano recorded three hits and three RBI.
Senior shortstop Cavan Brady drove in four runs and the Wheaton (Mass.) bullpen combined for six and a third innings of two-hit shutout relief as part of a 9-8 victory over Westminster (Pa.) at Chain O' Lakes Park in Winter Haven, Fla. at the RussMatt Invitational. Wheaton scored two runs in the sixth to knot the game at 8-8, before coming up with the eventual winning run in the top of the eighth. Brady registered his third outing with three or more RBI this season and was 3-5 with a triple, a walk, a stolen base and three runs scored for the Lyons.
After playing its first five games in Florida at the Snowbird Baseball Classic, No. 13 Denison turned its attention to the RussMatt Central Florida Baseball Invitational and a matchup against Farmingdale State for the final game of its Spring Break trip. Playing against the Rams, the Big Red finished with a 6-2 win after allowing only five hits as a team. The big blow from the Big Red then came from Erik Sundgren, who deposited a double to left center field to clear the bases and make it 5-2 Denison. In all, the Big Red pitching staff only allowed five hits and two walks while striking out seven. Denison improves to 8-3 on the season while Farmingdale State moves to 4-6. It was the first game between the two teams since the Big Red went 1-1 against the Rams in in Port Charlotte, Florida, back in 2015.
After suffering their first two losses of the season in the Greensboro Invitational, Maryville bounced back on Wednesday to pick up a convincing 10-0 victory over Transylvania at Scotland Yard. The Scots picked up 11 hits en route to their mercy rule victory. Four players picked up multiple knocks, with Jacob Johnston, Christian Carlton, Ashton Whiteaker, and Hunter Thaxton each leading the squad with two hits apiece. Seven of the Scots' 11 hits went for extra bases, with Carlton's three-run homer in the seventh acting as a walk-off with the 10-run rule coming into effect. Carlton finished the contest 2-for-4 with the homer, a season-high five RBIs, a run scored, and a walk. Bryce Einstein picked up his first win of the season in the contest. The junior entered the game in the second inning, and pitched four scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and a walk, while striking out one batter. His four innings pitched marks a career-high for the righty.
Mitchell split their doubleheader against Minnesota Morris on Wednesday at the RussMatt Invitational, falling 2-1 in the opener before rebounding for an 8-0 victory in the night cap. The first game was highlighted by Mitchell's Dougie DelaCruz, who belted a solo shot to right field in the top of the sixth inning to give him 19 career home runs, passing Jeff Perillo for most all time in program history. The second game saw the Mariner bats come alive in support of starting pitcher Tyler Daly. The senior was dominant on the mount, tossing a seven-ining complete game shutout, allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out seven.
Sewanee secured a 9-1 victory over Eureka as a part of the March Madness II, from USA Stadium on Wednesday. In the first inning, the Tigers got the offense going with a base hit by Blake Pou and a Hunter Herndon RBI double. Sewanee continued to tack on runs to put the game out of reach with the last two runs coming in the eighth. Hunter Herndon, with a 6-1 lead, made it 8-1 thanks to a two-run triple. J.T. Carter led the Tigers with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate with a triple and two RBI. Luke Bishop started the game and tossed four innings of four-hit, one-run ball with three punchouts. Jake Nevle (2-2) punched out six batters in four innings of relief.
Neumann team used an 11 run fourth inning to power their way to a 23-12 non-conference win over Lancaster Bible on Wednesday afternoon. In top of the fourth, the Knights broke the game open. In all, 17 men came to the plate and 11 runs scored, giving Neumann a 16-5 lead. Brandon Colon was 4 for 7 with a home run, three RBI, and four runs scored. Nate Griffin earned the win with a five-inning start. He's now 1-1.
Lynchburg freshman Benton Jones hit two home runs against Greensboro. Jones' pair of solo shots powered No. 12 Lynchburg's 13-3 win over the Pride. Josh Gjormand made his first-career start and pitched four innings with two strikeouts and two earned runs. Logan Tapman relieved Gjormand in the 5th and delivered three Ks over two innings to earn his first-collegiate win. Jackson Harding went 4-5 and scored four runs in the game. Sean Pokorak made his first-collegiate start behind the dish and got two hits with an RBI and a walk.
Keystone scored nine runs in the seventh & eighth innings on route to a 13-5 victory over Marymount on Wednesday afternoon. Keystone tallied 16 hits on the day, as seven Giants finished with two or more hits. Josh Parks was a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI, launching a two-run bomb to right in the fourth. Chris Hadsall and Julio Acosta both drove in two runs, with Acosta hustling for an inside-the-park homer in the eighth. Brayan Villar earned the start and the win, tossing 5.1 innings with five strikeouts, six groundouts and four flyouts. Julian Gonzalez and Bobby Pokorney appeared in relief.
Zach Grace threw a two-hit shutout as No. 11 Rowan defeated UMass-Boston, 3-0, at the RussMatt Invitational. Ryan Murphy, Tyler Cannon and Anthony Schooley each had two hits on the day to lead the Profs (6-3). Grace had 11 strikeouts while scattering the two hits and not allowing any runs as he earned his first victory at Rowan. The Profs scored all three runs in the fifth inning as Pat Defeciani hit a sacrifice fly to score Cannon, who singled. Murphy, who had doubled, then scored on a single by Schooley and Phil Sedalis singled to drive in the final run. Dylan Maria pitched the eighth inning in relief and struck out one while Christian Bascunan finished the game striking out two batters in the ninth.
Coe team picked up the fourth win of its Florida trip on Wednesday afternoon, defeating UW-La Crosse 5-2 in a nine-inning contest. Freshman pitcher Matthew Chapman picked up his second Florida victory in as many starts for the Kohawks, allowing just one earned run and four hits in six innings of work. The Santa Clarita, California native struck out eight Eagle hitters on the day and retired the side in three of his six frames. The Kohawk offense backed up their starter, racking up a season-high 12 hits en route to the victory. All nine Coe starting hitters reached base safely in the game and three players had multi-hit games with Mitchell Eckardt, Gavin Guns and Tyler Bayless recording at least two knocks. The Kohawks racked up six extra-base hits in the win and saw five different players register an RBI in a total team effort. With the win, Coe improves to 5-4 on the season while UW-La Crosse falls to 1-2.
Sophomore Nick Wilson and senior Bobby Cliche threw 4.1 scoreless innings to help Plymouth State defeat Mount Aloysius 8-5. Wilson entered a tie game in the fifth against Mount Aloysius College and picked off a runner to end a scoring threat. PSU pushed a run across in the bottom of the frame to take the lead and Wilson went on to retire the first two hitters in the sixth. Cliche took over from there, limiting the Mounties’ opportunities to pick up his first save of the year. In the day’s opening game, Rutgers University-Camden pounded out 17 hits in a 17-2 win over the Panthers.
Cortland scored 21 runs over the final three innings, including a 13-run top of the seventh, and the Red Dragons defeated host Brevard, 23-3, in a non-league matchup. Cortland trailed 3-2 entering the top of the seventh. The Red Dragons tied the game on Hunter Holliday's pinch-hit RBI single, but the rally seemed to fizzle out when Cortland lined into a double play with runners on second and third. However, Cortland proceeded to score 12 more runs in the inning and sent a total of 19 batters to the plate during the frame. The Red Dragons finished with 10 hits in the inning and took a 15-3 lead, and Cortland added three in the eighth and five in the ninth.
MCLA split a doubleheader with Maine-Presque Isle in the RussMatt Invitational at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Florida. The Trailblazers took game one 9-4 but fell to the Owls in game two, 12-5. With the results MCLA is now 6-3 while Maine-Presque Isle moves to 1-7. A pair of doubles by Austin Rachiele and Randy Adams in the top of the 7th would give MCLA an insurance run that they would not end up needing as relievers Garrett Brunette and Vincent Scappaticcio prevented any threat from the Owls to develop, preserving the 9-4 win. Trailblazer starting pitcher Brian Rosario (W, 3-0) allowed 4 earned runs on four hits, striking out 7 UMPI batters in five innings pitched. In game two, MCLA would add early runs but the Owls would take advantage of several Trailblazer defensive mistakes on their way to scoring three runs in the top of the 2nd and four more in the top of the 3rd to establish a 7-4 lead. UMPI would again be the beneficiaries of two more Trailblazer errors and a wild pitch in the top of the 6th enroute to scoring four more runs to swell their lead to 12-4. UMPI starter Dakota Morrow (W, 1-0) would pitch a five-run, nine-hit complete game to lead the Owls to their first victory of the season.
Lewis & Clark bashed six home runs and scored multiple runs in six of their at-bats to earn a 16-3 game two victory, in a doubleheader split with visiting Puget Sound in their 2023 home opener at the Huston Sports Complex. The Pioneers lost the opener 7-2. Puget Sound used a five-run fifth inning to take a commanding lead and their three pitchers combined to hold the Pioneers to just seven singles. After the Pioneers struggled to get their offense going in game one, five different hitters hit home runs to lead Lewis & Clark to their first home win of the season.
Ripon rallied to a 3-2 victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy this morning at the USA Stadium Complex. With the game tied at two going into the top of the eighth, Brock Warren singled through the left side to leadoff and then advanced to second off of Jack Anderson's sacrifice bunt. Anderson was out at first on the play. Warren then picked up his third stolen base of the game as he took third. He later came in to score to put Ripon in front 3-2 on Evan Olson's RBI single to center. The Ripon pitching staff pitched seven scoreless innings after giving up two runs in the second. Starter Blaine Wahlen scattered seven hits over five innings allowing two earned runs. Reliever Rex Bayer picked up his first win of the season as he threw three strong innings and not allowing a single runner to reach. Brock Turkington earned his second save of the season in the process. Warren finished the day going 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored, three stolen bases, a double, and a walk. His three stolen bases are a season-high and this is the fifth time this season he has recorded multiple hits.
No. 6 Shenandoah scored runs in all but two innings as they defeated Mary Washington 16-4. Eight of the nine SU starters hit safely in the contest with Pearce Bucher leading the way with a 5 for 6 afternoon that included a pair of runs batted in. Kooper Anderson, Gavin Horning, and Colby Martin had four hits each. Horning, who finished 4 for 6 with 5 RBI, capped his afternoon with a three-run home run in the ninth. Anderson had three RBI with Martin and Haden Madagan matching Bucher's two RBI. Shenandoah used four pitchers in the contest with Brian Ferreira (1-0) earning the victory with 2 2/3 innings of relief work. He and starter Michael Prosperi both struck out five. Ferreira allowed one run on two hits and Prosperi two runs on three hits and two walks in 4 1/3. Weekend starters Jacob Faivre and Reilly Owen pitched the eighth and ninth, respectively.
Benedictine moved to 4-1 on the trip to Florida by winning a wild 14-12 contest with William Paterson on Wednesday. Kevin Bushnell hit a grand slam as part of Benedictine building a 10-4 advantage. William Paterson struck for eight runs in the top of the eighth inning to lead 12-10 before Benedictine countered with four in the bottom of the inning to win. Brennan Fisher tied the game with a sacrifice fly and Andrew Tenison notched an RBI single to score the go-ahead run. Andrew Kurcz threw seven solid innings. Nick Shelton earned the win in relief recording the final four outs and leaving the tying runs on base in the ninth. Tenison, Gregorio and Cole Wilson all notched a pair of hits.
Ithaca improved to 6-4 on the season with a 20-4 blowout victory over Roger Williams at Lake Myrtle Park. IC is now 2-2 during its Spring Break trip to Florida. In that fourth, Ryan Laubscher started the fourth inning rally In which the Bombers would score nine runs and take contyrol of the game. The lead grew to 19-3 after the top of the seventh as the Bombers scored twice in the fifth, five times in the sixth and twice more in the seventh. Zane Grimes earned the win in 4.0 innings pitched with seven strikeouts. Bo Nicholson tossed 2.0 innings in relief, while Reed Bailey finished off the game in the seventh. The Bombers produced 24 hits in the win as Louis Fabbo went 4-for-4 and Ryan Laubscher was 4-for-5. Garrett Callaghan drove in five runs on three hits.
Overcoming two deficits throughout the game, No. 18 North Central College put together a clutch sixth inning to beat the College of Wooster on Wednesday afternoon at Centennial Park Fields. It was a back-and-forth affair with the Cardinals grabbing the lead in the sixth for good. Following a walk from Justin Rios and a double from Michael Davis, Luke Lehnen hit a clutch two-run single through the right side to score Rios and Davis and put the Cardinals back on top, 8-7. Michael Patterson came in to pitch for the top of the seventh and held the Scots scoreless, working out of a two-on, two-out jam. Nolan Shannon entered the game in the eighth with a runner on second and two outs. He fanned the Scot batter to keep the score at 8-7. Capturing his first save of the season, Shannon struck out the final two batters of the game to secure an 8-7 victory for the Cardinals.
Wilmington has won 6-of-the-last 7 on the season with credit to a seven-run sixth-inning against Franklin on Wednesday afternoon. Wilmington (6-7) has now beaten Franklin (6-5) twice to open the 2023 season. The Quakers, trailing 6-4 entering the sixth, scored seven runs to put the Quakers up 11-6. Franklin attempted to battle back from the deficit, as it scored five runs in the seventh and eighth-inning, however the Quakers were able to silence the crowd as it added three more insurance runs over the eighth and the ninth-inning. Luke Chappie closed things out on the mound for the Quakers, as he earned his first save of the season after retiring the side in the bottom of the ninth.
