Millsaps, Sewanee open SAA tournament with upset wins

No. 16 nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh (23-7, 14-4 WIAC) split the first two games of a four-game series against No. 18 UW-La Crosse (23-7, 14-4 WIAC) on Friday afternoo. The Eagles won game one 8-2 and the Titans prevailed 13-3 in game two.

Birmingham-Southern and Sewanee pitched shutouts to open the SAA Tournament on Friday. Joey White was excellent on the mound for the Panthers with six innings pitched, five hits, and no runs given up. Ricky Harrison came in to hold the Stormy Petrels scoreless in the seventh and solidify the shutout. The Panthers outscored Oglethorpe 11-0 in a rule-ruled win. Sewanee won 3-0 on Centre's home field. The Tigers hit the ball well early on, connecting on a few seeing-eye hits to score a pair of runs in the first two innings. The Colonels had their best chance of cracking the scoreboard in the fifth after Teddy Holloway smacked a triple off the center field wall to lead off the inning, but he was thrown out while trying to score on a wild pitch to end the threat. In the seventh, Sewanee added another run following an error and a sacrifice fly, and the Colonels managed just one hit the rest of the way as the Tigers secured the 3-0 victory. Millsaps took the first win of the weekend best of three series from Rhodes, winning 9-3. Berry defeated Hendix 6-3.

Pacific pulled away defeat the Willamette Bearcats, 18-1, in a non-conference game on Friday. Tyler Quinn started the game off with a leadoff double and with a third inning home run, a single in the seventh and a triple in the eighth, he finished the game with the cycle. Will Clark, the starting pitcher for Pacific, threw seven innings and allowed just one run and two hits. He struck out five batters, allowed two walks, and hit one batter. Clark upped his record to 7-2.

Keystone used five home runs to defeat St. Elizabeth 20-8 in CSAC action on Friday afternoon. The Giants (22-11, 12-1 CSAC) have now won 12 of 13 games and will return home to host SEU tomorrow in a doubleheader. The Eagles fall to 13-20 (7-6 CSAC). Keystone plated five runs in the first and seventh innings, outhitting SEU 20-11 along the way. Bobby Pokorney finished 3-for-5 with two homers and five RBI. Giovanni Diaz went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and four RBI. Greg Verano tallied four hits with three RBI while Jason Thomas, Josh Parks and Chris Hadsall all drove in two runs each. Anthony Raimo enjoyed a 4-for-4 outing. Jordan Art earned his fourth win of the spring, going six innings with four strikeouts, 10 flyouts and two groundouts. Nick Termini, Kade Compeau, Kevin Murphy, and Will Rodriguez appeared in relief.

Tufts clinched the East Division top seed in the upcoming New England Small College Athletic Conference Tournament Friday, as senior starter Connor Kinney tossed a complete game in a 2-1 win over Colby College in play from Coombs Field. Kinney upped his season record to 4-0 with one of his most dominant starts of the campaign, as the tall right-hander went all nine innings, striking out a season-high eight hitters while walking one and allowing only three hits. Colby starting pitcher Nicholas Thompson was the tough-luck loser, as he allowed no earned runs over 7.2 innings, striking out four and allowing three hits. With the win, Tufts is assured of hosting the No. 4 team from the NESCAC West Division next weekend for a three-game series in the NESCAC Quarterfinals on Sol Gittleman Park Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7.

DeSales fell behind early but scored nine unanswered runs to complete the three-game sweep of Stevens, 10-2, in MAC Freedom action on Friday afternoon at Dobbelaar Field. The win completes the three-game sweep of the Ducks and gives DeSales the #3 seed in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament. This will be DSU's 23rd appearance in the MAC Freedom Postseason Tournament. DeSales has won eight MAC Freedom Championships. DSU took control in the top of the sixth taking advantage of a two-out error by the Ducks to score four unearned runs on an RBI single from first-year John Rorick and two-RBI double from first-year JT Anderosky. Rorick had another RBI single in the eighth inning and put the exclamation point on the win with three runs in the ninth inning on a bases clearing triple from junior Gavin Zavorski.

Lane Williams hit a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to cap a wild comeback win as LeTourneau took the series opener over UTexas-Dallas, 10-8, on Friday evening. What was once a doubleheader turned into a single-game as the threat of rain in the area increased through the night. The two teams will now play a doubleheader on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Conrad-Vernon Field. LeTourneau (18-20, 12-13 ASC) took a 3-0 lead in the first, only to see UT Dallas (22-16, 14-11) grab an 8-7 lead after a five-run eighth inning. In the ninth, the YellowJackets struck again. Back-to-back walks to Cameron Pfafman and Andrew Klingenstein put runners at first and second with one out. After a strikeout, Williams came up with two outs and delivered a no-doubt three-run home run to left field. The homer was Williams' fourth of the season. It was LeTourneau's second ninth-inning comeback win in two weeks after pulling off a similar victory on the road at McMurry on April 15.

Sophomore right-handed starting pitcher Ryan McCarroll allowed just one run through six and a third innings to lead the No. 11 Wheaton College (Mass.) over visiting Babson, 4-1, this afternoon in the first game of a New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference three-game series, at Sidell Stadium on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass. The Lyons have won six straight, 14 of their last 15 and 24 of their last 26 games and improve to 30-5 overall and 14-1 in league play. Wheaton captures its 19th NEWMAC regular season crown – all under Head Coach Eric Podbelski – and reaches the 30-win mark for the 14th time in the program's 26-year history, including two seasons shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Beavers fall to 22-14 and 10-5.

Wilson completed the sweep of its series with Clarks Summit with a convincing 27-7 victory in seven innings on Friday afternoon. Throughout the series the Phoenix outscored the Defenders by a combined score of 56-7. The Phoenix didn't waste any time pouring on the runs as they posted 11 in the first inning. Jordan McKenzie lit the fuse with a solo home run for his eighth round-trip of the season. Alec Seidleck brought the final run to close the scoring in the inning. The Defenders avoided the shutout as they plated a pair in the fifth inning. Kade Linton extended the lead by two a couple of innings later as he hit Wilson's sixth dinger of the day for a 27-2 lead in the seventh. The Defenders added an inside-the-park home run to set the final score.

Dominican hosted the Raiders of MSOE for their final home matchup of the year and split the two game set. Dominican won the opener 5-4 and dropped game two 2-7. MSOE came storming back tying game one up in the top of the 6th by scoring three runs on three hits. Garrett Wano delivered an RBI single in the bottom of 6th to give the Stars the win. Game two stayed tied 0-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning when Dominican opened the scoring. The Raiders would take the lead in the top of the seventh by scoring three runs. Dominican attempted a comeback but MSOE kept the pedal down, adding another three runs in the 8th inning and one in the 9th.

Northwestern (Minn.) opened up an important UMAC weekend series with Northland College on Friday night. The pregame rain ceased right around first pitch at Reynolds Field, and the Eagles used a big swing of the bat and great starting pitching to defeat the Lumberjacks 4-3. Sam Szymanski was the hero of the game as he took the mound in the top half of the sixth inning with a slim one run lead. The senior would buckle down and hold the Lumberjacks scoreless in the final four frames to guide UNW to the 4-3 victory. In the complete game shutout victory, Szymanski only gave up six hits and picked up ten strikeouts. The win was his fourth of the season. Aaron Severson and Grady Karges each had two hits in the game for the Eagles. Ben Spores had a hit and drew three walks as he got in base in four of his five plate appearances.

Gilroy Prial sent the Gothic Knights home packing with a 2 RBI walkoff single to take down NJCU in a crucial New Jersey Athletic Conference game, 3-2. The Scarlet Raiders picked up the win on Senior Day where Armando Alvarez, Ethan Calcano, Matthew Rypkema and Marcus James were honored. The win boosted the Scarlet Raiders to 21-14-1, 5-10-1 while NJCU dropped to 12-25, 2-14. The Scarlet Raiders were held to four hits, but tallied three runs on those four hits. Prial, Michael Weinbel, Armando Alvarez and Jesse Evensen all tallied a hit with Prial tallying two RBIs. Marcus James (4-3) earned a complete game win where he threw 140 pitches with three strikeouts.

Sam Angelo snapped a 9-9 tie with a three-run, seventh-inning home run as Montclair State came back from eight runs down to top Kean 12-9 Friday. The Red Hawks (23-9, 10-6 NJAC) scored all 12 runs from the fifth through the seventh innings to complete the two-game sweep of Kean (22-14-1, 11-4-1 NJAC). A day after recording his 100th career hit, Angelo went 2-for-5 with four RBI. The bullpen unit of Jacob Dembin, Chris Lim, Alec Benzinger, and Matt Pontari tossed 4 2/3 frames of one-run ball and surrendered four hits. "Proud of our guys, they never quit. The bullpen gave us a chance and our hitters found a way," said Montclair State Head Coach Dave Lorber.

Mr. Walk turned into Mr. Walkoff. Four innings after breaking a 41-year-old school record for walks in a season, junior Jonathan Toth did something infinitely more memorable: He hit a walkoff single in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Muhlenberg a 3-2 win against Ursinus at Coca-Cola Park. The win, coming in the Mules' regular-season finale, gave them a final Centennial Conference record of 9-9. By winning three games in a span of 25 hours, they put themselves in position to earn a CC playoff berth, and now they have to play the waiting game to see if they'll get to play any more games. Losses by Haverford and Ursinus would put the Mules in the playoffs. Toth's hit capped a thrilling game between two playoff hopefuls who have now gone into extra innings each of the last three years at Coca-Cola Park. Muhlenberg walked off with wins all three times, 8-7 in 10 innings in 2021, 4-3 in 13 innings last year and 3-2 in 10 innings this time.

Wilkes erased an eight-run deficit led by a Connor Morgan go-ahead two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh as the Colonels defeated FDU-Florham 14-13 in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom game on a rainy Friday at Bruggeworth Field which also marked Senior Day. Wilkes improved to 15-23 overall and 9-13 in the MAC Freedom with the victory which keeps the Colonels squarely in the race for the fifth seed in the upcoming conference tournament. FDU-Florham is now 7-30 and 4-17 in the league with the loss. The Devils took a 13-12 lead in the top of the seventh using a two-out hit by pitch, single and double to score two runs. Following a walk by Todd Kolbicka to begin the bottom of the seventh, Connor Morgan crushed his first career home run to left field to put Wilkes back ahead 14-13.

Jake Millich drilled a two-run double into deep right to score a pair in the bottom of the ninth as Clarkson earned a split against St. Lawrence, taking game one 10-9 before the Saints claimed the nightcap 2-0 on Friday afternoon at Jack Phillips Stadium. With the game one win, Clarkson clinched the fourth spot in the West Division standings and the team will face Skidmore College in the Liberty League Crossover series next weekend in Saratoga Springs. The two teams faced one another last year as well, with the Knights sweeping the Thoroughbreds and advancing to the conference tournament.

Bethany Lutheran Friday afternoon picked up a big win over Crown by a score of 12-8. With the win the Vikings move to 16-8 overall and 12-3 in the UMAC, while the Polars fall to 18-13 overall and 12-4 in the conference. All 10 Vikings who had an at-bat in the contest got a hit, with six Vikings knocking a pair of hits. Conor Merton got the win on the mound scattering eight hits and six runs over six innings, while striking out six batters. Jackson Huiras got the save, allowing no hits over three innings and striking out two.

Buena Vista opened up their final home series of the season with a Friday night matchup against Simpson. The Beavers were victorious with a 7-1 win, earning the American Rivers Conference regular season title. It marks their second straight conference title, a feat last accomplished when the Beavers went back-to-back in the '80 and '81 seasons. Fresh off a dominant complete-game outing against Luther and an A-R-C Male Athlete of the week nomination, Morgan Smith received the start on the mound for the Beavers. The sophomore pitcher was in fine form again, allowing a run in the second before throwing six scoreless innings the rest of his start. Smith only got stronger as the game went on, recording six of his eight strikeouts in his final three innings on the mound. Calvin Harris relieved Smith for the final inning. Harris allowed no runs on one hit while striking out a pair, including a game sealing strikeout that emptied the dugout for a Beavers celebration.

Drew won on a walk-off suicide squeeze bunt in the bottom of the 10th inning and the Rangers captured a wild 9-8 victory in the second game of a Landmark Conference doubleheader with Susquehanna University on Friday at Doc Young Field. After the River Hawks won the opener 5-0, Drew won in thrilling fashion in Game Two, which featured five lead changes. With the second game tied 8-8 and junior Anthony Hernandez on third, freshman Mike Farinaccio came to the plate and bunted an 0-2 pitch back to pitcher Landon Ness. Hernandez broke on the pitch and dove headfirst across the plate as the throw from Ness sailed over the catcher, setting off a Drew celebration on the field.

Maine Farmington swept Maine Presque Isles 4-2 and 5-3
on Friday, ending a five game losing streak.

William Paterson (23-13, 10-6 NJAC) secured a spot in the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament with a 4-2 Senior Day victory against visiting Ramapo (20-16, 7-9 NJAC). The Pioneers seized a 2-0 first-inning lead and made it a 3-0 game in the third. Ramapo woudl score two runs in the seventh but would never find the clutch hit to get them past the Pioneers. Junior left fielder Noah Cabassa was hit by a pitch and sophomore designated hitter Austin Jack doubled to left-center field, pushing William Paterson ahead by a 4-2 count after eight innings.

Hobart exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning and got a strong start from sophomore pitcher Griffin Snyder to earn a 9-6 Liberty League win over regionally-ranked Ithaca. The Statesmen pounded out 10 hits with the bottom of the order doing the most damage. Hobart's 7-8-9 hitters were a combined 6 for 13. First-year Michael Presbrey was 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs. First-year Nate Garrett was 2 for 3 with a ninth inning home run and junior Alex Morse was 2 for 5.

Marian (16-17, 9-9 NACC) returned to NACC action with a 6-3 and 2-0 win over Wisconsin Lutheran. Marian was able to start fast in the opener with junior Logan Rademan driving in two runs in th first inning. A bases-loaded walk from fellow junior Caleb Dohms in the second saw Marian go up 3-0. The two squads traded runs in the fourth and sixth with sophomore Gus Walker driving in a run as Marian held a 5-2 advantage. A key sacrifice fly from Rademan in the ninth built the Sabre lead to 6-2. WLC managed to get the tying run to the plate but could only plate one putting the final at 6-3. A pitching duel broke out in game two with junior Robbie Knorr driving in a run with a sacrifice fly in the third to to open the scoring. Marian would manag to plate a run in the sixth for all the scoring of game two.

Rochester opened up the final weekend of the regular season with a 9-3 win over Liberty League rival RIT on Friday afternoon at Towers Field. The victory pushes Rochester to 24-11 overall and 15-2 in the Liberty League, leaving UR one win away from clinching the West division and overall Liberty League conference titles. The Tigers (16-13, 8-6 Liberty League) also still have a chance at the Division crown, with a sweep of Saturday's scheduled doubleheader at RIT. Rochester is now 11-2 in the West division, while RIT is now 8-3. The Yellowjackets have secured a top-2 seed, and hosting duties, for the crossover series next weekend, thanks to Hobart's win over Ithaca to close out that series. Three players, Josh Leadem, Joseph Rende and Jackson Reed all finished with two hits in the game for the Yellowjackets. Rende and Reed drove in two and Reed also scored twice. Alec Ellison plated three runs with his home run, his second of the season.

Triples by Tyler Cannon and Phil Sedalis provided the runs needed for #21 Rowan to rally for an 11-8 win over Stockton in NJAC action that was stopped in the seventh inning due to rain and field conditions. The win is the Profs' fifth straight as they head into the final weekend of the regular season. The victory also gave Rowan head coach Mike Dickson the 600th win in his 18-year coaching career, which includes nine seasons at Rowan College at Gloucester County and then nine at the University. His career mark now stands at 600-188. Cannon and Sedalis both drove in three runs for Rowan (27-10; 12-4 NJAC), while Jason Morgan went 4-for-4, scoring three times. Chris Serrano went 2-for-2 and crossed the plate twice, as did Brian Gallante. Reliever Christian Bascunan (2-2) picked up the win as he worked the fifth inning as Rowan used six pitchers in the game. Dylan Maria, the Profs' DH, went to the mound in the sixth with Rowan ahead 8-7, and kept Stockton scoreless with two runners on.

On Senior Day on Friday afternoon, MIT opened a three-game weekend series with a 9-6 home win over Emerson. In the fourth, MIT strung together five hits, including a triple down the right field line by Tyler Godfrey and a two-RBI single from Eitan Moore that gave the Engineers the lead for good at 7-3. Emerson answered in a big way in the top of the fifth as the Lions took advantage of two MIT errors, leading to an eventual three-run home run to left field by Chris Ferera that pulled the visitors within 7-6. MIT added insurance runs in the fifth and Ethan Siegel came on in the eighth and held the Lions scoreless to secure the save and the win for the Engineers.

Kyle Reuser had four RBI, Chris Torres pitched 6.1 solid innings and Cal Lutheran baseball defeated Whitman College 8-5 on Friday afternoon. The Kingsmen are 4-0 against Northwest Conference competition, including a sweep of Whitworth early in the season. With the win, the Kingsmen improved to 21-13. Torres started the game on the mound and had a strong outing. He struck out seven as he earned his sixth win of the season. He gave up just four hits and one earned run.

Trinity (Texas) began its final regular season series of the year with a 6-1 road victory against St. Thomas (Texas) on Friday night. The second game of Friday's doubleheader was suspended in the top of the ninth due to lightning, and will be resumed on Sunday prior to the series finale. Jack Baker led the offensive attack by going 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI, accounting for four of the team's six runs scored. Ty Preston drove in a pair of runs as well, while Tyler Pettit finished with two hits and two runs scored. Michael Montrezza and Colt Harris also had two hits each. Jackson Teer improved to 8-1 this season after allowing one run on five hits over 5.2 innings pitched, and struck out three batters. Jack Martinez got the save by pitching 3.1 shutout innings to close the game, striking out three batters and allowing just two hits.

Junior first baseman Owen Krizan's one-out, walk-off single in the ninth inning lifted Hope to a 3-2 victory against Calvin in Game 1 of their doubleheader on Friday at Boeve Stadium. The Flying Dutchmen dropped Game 2, 9-7, but still won the three-game series and gained a game of their rivals in the race for the final spot in the MIAA Tournament. Hope leads Calvin by 1 ½ games in the MIAA race. In Game 1, the Flying Dutchmen answered the Knights' tying the score at 2-2 in the top of the ninth inning. Junior center fielder Robbie Stuursma smacked a one-out triple to move the winning run within 90 feet. After two intentional walks loaded the bases, Krizan ripped a pitch to left to knock in Stuursma. In Game 2, the Flying Dutchmen surrendered two four-run innings, including one in the top of the eighth that extended Calvin's lead to 9-4.

Adam Mieczkowski homered twice and tripled in the opener and homered again in the nightcap as Cortland clinched the SUNYAC regular-season title with a sweep at Plattsburgh. The Red Dragons (26-9, 16-2 SUNYAC) won the first game, 15-2 in seven innings, and the second game, 6-2. With the league regular-season crown, Cortland has earned the right to host the four-team SUNYAC postseason tournament May 11-14. Shane Van Dam earned the win in the opener with five innings of two-hit shutout ball. He struck out 11 batters and issued no walks. In game two, Cortland broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the top of the sixth on a Chemotti RBI single, and the Red Dragons added two in the seventh on a wild pitch and a Krafft RBI bunt single. Krafft also plated a run with a sac fly in the ninth to account for the 6-2 final.

Coe picked up their fifth-straight win in dominant fashion on Friday afternoon at Daniels Park, defeating Nebraska Wesleyan 8-1 in the series-opening game. Coe took an early lead in the first inning and were led initially by Ethan O'Donnell who kept the visiting Prairie Wolves scoreless through three innings. NWU tied the game in the fourth but the Kohawks got one in the fifth and two in the sixth to regain a solid lead for O'Donnell. Kevin Lamb broke the game open for the Kohawks in what ended up being their final offensive inning, delivering a pinch-hit grand slam in the bottom of the eighth to give Coe an 8-1 advantage. O'Donnell earned his fourth win of the season with the bullpen doing its job as Jacob Schmit and Michael Bonner pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings to secure the result. With the victory, Coe improves to 18-14 on the year and 10-9 in the A-R-C while Nebraska Wesleyan drops to 13-22 and 4-15 in the league.

Huntingdon (23-10 overall, 9-5 CCS) defeated LaGrange (25-13 overall, 11-5 CCS) in their first game of the series on the road, 6-4. With Parker Szush on the mound for the Hawks, the scoring would not begin until the sixth inning for the Panthers. Huntingdon brought in three runs in the top of the fifth for a lead they would hold. Another three spot in the seventh gave the Hawks breathing room. a late push by LaGrange fell short. In the bottom of the seventh after one run from the Panthers, relief pitcher, Seth Killam came to the mound as the Panthers looked to cover ground in the run game. Killam ended the inning but not before one more Panther run brought the game within two (6-4). Killam struck out three batters, on the ranked Panthers team, in the next two innings and allowed three hits as he earned his third save of the season and Parker Szush his fourth win.

WPI and Clark split a NEWMAC doubleheader on Friday afternoon Granger Field. The Engineers (16-21, 5-11) won game one, 7-4, while the Cougars (17-19, 8-8) took the nightcap, 3-1. WPI's Kyle Johns and Tommy Burns each posted three hits and an RBI on the day. Everett Wonson moved to 4-2 with the win, throwing 7.2 innings, and allowing four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts. Noah Pins shut the door, tossing 1.1 innings to secure the victory. In game two, Clark's Maxwell Gitlin and Max Moss combined to allow just six hits as Gitlin moved to 5-2 and Moss nabbed his first save of the season. Gitlin tossed 6.2, allowing one run on four hits with six strikeouts, while Moss finished out the game allowing two hits with one strikeout. WPI's Owen Radcliffe took the loss, throwing eight innings, allowing three runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts.

Junior EJ Leone laced three doubles and drove in three to propel Johnson & Wales to a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference wins, 8-1 and 10-0, over Saint Joseph's (ME) Friday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex. The Wildcats put up four runs in both the third and fifth innings, scoring on a two-run double from Leone, an RBI triple from junior Riley Hasson, RBI doubles from junior Xavier Botelho and sophomore Owen Davis, and run-scoring singles from Botelho and freshman Jack Obert. Freshman Aidan Vining won his fourth-straight decision, scattering five hits and allowing one run over seven while striking out nine. Hasson, Davis, and junior Thorin Sanchez-Guerra each drove in two runs for the Wildcats. Sanchez-Guerra opened the scoring with a two-run double in the second before Davis' two-run single in the third sparked a three-run inning and ran the lead to 5-0. An RBI single from Botelho in the fifth, followed by a run-scoring double off the bat of Hasson in the sixth, made it 7-0 before JWU plated three more in the seventh to wrap the game. Sophomore Ryan Schultz went the distance for the Wildcats, allowing just three hits while striking out five to improve to 5-0 on the season.

Julian Sanders was 3-for-3 with three RBI, including his 13th home run of the season which tied a program record, as Claremont-Mudd-Sctipts earned an 18-2 win over Caltech on Friday afternoon at Pomona-Pitzer Baseball Field. With the win, CMS moves to 25-7 on the season and 15-4 in the SCIAC, staying in the hunt for the league's regular season title. Caltech slips to 7-25 overall and 3-16 in league play. Sanders hit a two-run homer in the third inning to make the score 10-1 and give him 13 round-trippers on the season. That ties the Stags all-time record, which was set by CMS Hall of Famer Tyler Laughery in 1997. Paul Roche was 3-for-4 with two RBI, and Nick Wilson was 2-for-2 with three RBI for CMS, while Jack Potter stole four bases on a day in which he went 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Jarrett Korson went four innings to get the win, while Bryant Smaaladen threw three innings of hitless relief, striking out five, to get the save.

Freshman leadoff hitter Julian Swift pushed his hit streak to 22 games to claim the program's longest hit streak. Concordia Texas opened up a doubleheader with a split, 10-2 and 2-3, against Howard Payne. Ace pitcher Dakota Palmer posted a career-high 10 strikeouts in the game one victory at Don Shepard Park on Friday. Concordia came out on fire in the first, with a Mason Vasquez two-RBI single to left for an early 2-0 lead. Howard Payne cut the lead in half in the second, but a RBI-single through the left side by Gomez scored Swift for a 3-1 score in the fourth. Zach Seigrist extended the advantage to 5-1 when he slapped a two-RBI single to right centerfield to bring home Matthew Armes and Vasquez. The Yellowjackets notched one run in the bottom of the frame, but CTX exploded for six runs in the sixth with Seigrist tacking on another pair of RBIs to highlight the 10-2 victory. With weather altering play that caused a combined six errors, offense was at a premium in game two. The Yellowjackets scored one run in the third and one run in the sixth for a 2-0 lead late in the game. With two men on in the eighth, Swift notched his record-breaking hit and tied the game with a single to right to score Seigrist and Robert Villa. Into extra innings, Howard Payne had a man on third with one out, but Noah Kelley and the Tornados' defense escaped the tenth unscathed. The Yellowjackets once again put a man on third in the eleventh frame, and were able to capitalize for the walk-off victory.
