The homers and a quality start from Brandon Menzel led Chapman to a 10-3 victory in the series against Cortland. The Panthers improved to 9-7 on the year and avoided the series sweep. AJ Anzai and Kai Osaka launched their third home runs of the season and Trent Turquand went deep for the first time in 2024 in the convincing victory. Anzai and Osaka's home runs came just moments apart as Anzai led off the third inning with a solo shot to right and Osaka followed two batters later with a no-doubt, two-run homer to left. Turquand went 3-for-4 on the day and welcomed a relief pitcher with a three-run home run in the fifth to put Chapman up 7-2. Turquand also had a sacrifice fly in the third for a four-RBI day. While the offense came to life, Brandon Menzel put together a solid start on the mound, tossing seven innings and striking out four. Sean Colbert gave up one hit in the ninth but was able to keep USM off the board for the Profs' win.

Marietta College's first batter in the bottom of the first inning singled and came around to score an unearned run on a stolen base, error and sacrifice fly. It was not, however a sign of things to come. Not only did it prove to be the Pioneers' only run, but also its only hit as first-year lefty Chris Torre shut them out the rest of the way, until giving way with one out in the seventh to junior righty Matthew Wooton, who stranded the tying and winning runs in scoring position as the Eastern Connecticut State University baseball team won the battle of Division III's premier baseball programs, 2-1, in the third round of the Marietta College/BSN SPORTS Invitational at Pioneer Park. Against Marietta (6-8), Eastern scored all the runs it would need in the first inning, on senior first baseman Ryan Parent's one-out, two-run home run -- his first of the season -- after senior shortstop Zach Donahue drew a walk to open the game. The win in his first start (fourth appearance) is the first in the career of Torres and save the first for Wootton.

Seven and a half hours of competitive, high level ODAC baseball transpired at McBane Field on Saturday afternoon as Guilford took No. 1 Shenandoah University to the brink, going toe-to-toe with the top team in the nation for 12 innings then falling in the 13th frame in game one, 4-1, before they finished the job with a 23-22, sunlight-shortened, upset victory in the second game. Marcello Ricigliano pitched excellently in game one, going the first 9.0 innings allowing just one run on seven hits and three walks to a SU squad that was averaging over 11 runs per game coming in, although he did not factor into the decision. Neither did Shenandoah starter Jacob Bell who threw the first 8.0 innings allowing one run on eight hits and two walks, fanning seven. The pitching decisions fell to the bullpens with Chase Wade being on the wrong end of things after allowing 3 unearned runs across the final 4.0 innings. He allowed one hit and two walks, striking out three to fall to 1-1. Anthony Arrichiello got the win improving to 1-0 after throwing 2.0 innings of scoreless baseball. There was not much offense to be found in the first contest but plenty in game two. In a performance that on any other day would be the headline, Michael Sumner collected five hits, the most by a Quaker since 2017 and among them a long ball on his way to three runs scored and five batted in. As madness unfolded in the top of the ninth, the Hornets picking up nine runs to draw within one.
