Big numbers for ranked teams on Tuesday

Franklin & Marshall (8-12) earned a hard-fought, 11-8, victory against No. 19 TCNJ (12-3) in Tuesday afternoon's non-conference mid-week matchup. F&M was resilient in the win - erasing a five-run deficit with seven runs in the seventh inning, followed by three runs in the eighth to pull away from the Lions.

The 3rd-ranked Shenandoah Hornets were back in action Tuesday afternoon for a road conference game with Eastern Mennonite. The Hornets (17-3, 7-2) jumped out to an early 8-0 lead in after the third inning, and went on to take care of the Royals 12-4, just beating the rain. Coming off a busy week of games last week, and with another daunting week of games ahead, the Hornets made some pitching adjustments and Matt House got the start for the Hornets. House went the first three innings of the game and gave up seven hits and three runs to the Royals and struck out one batter. House gave way to Jackson Sherman who went a .1, before Ricky Synder came in to pitch the next 2.2 innings and picked up the win. The win was Synder's second of the season. The combination of Brian Ferreira and Parker Farrington went the next 1.1 innings before Joey Mitchell came in for the final 1.2 innings to pick up the save.

Senior Johnny Knox converted a perfect sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the 10th inning, scoring senior Ben Jerome in the process as Nichols topped Hartford in 10 innings on Tuesday afternoon from Fiondella Field. The Bison won 2-1 over the Hawks in the teams first meeting. Sophomore Aidan Whitten threw 5.0 solid innings for the Bison, striking out five batters and allowing three hits. Junior Clark Churchill (4-1) entered in relief, throwing 5.0 scoreless innings to secure his fourth win of the season, including get out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the 10th.

York (Pa.) got another big offensive day as they rolled past former MAC Commonwealth foe Lebanon Valley 19-5 in a non-conference contest on Tuesday afternoon in Annville. The meeting is the first as non-conference foes since the Spartans moved to the MAC in 2020-21. The Spartans have now scored in double figures in their last two games and seven times overall this year. The Spartan's top hitters were Andrew Santarpia (4-for-6, 1 run, 4 RBI), Gabe Trevena (3-for-6, 1 run, RBI, BB, 2B) and Chris Betler (3-for-6, 3 runs, 3 RBI, 3B). The Spartans improve to 27-15 all-time against the Dutchmen as they snap a two-game losing streak, York pitchers tied a season-low for hits allowed with four, tying the March 10 game two against St. Mary's and again in the March 16 game one against Albright.

Roger Williams braved the cold conditions at Paolino Field on Tuesday afternoon to beat Wentworth, 5-2, in the Hawks' first Commonwealth Coast Conference game of the year. Conor Quinlan picked up the win on the mound for the Hawks, pitching 5.0 innings while striking out four and allowing two runs, one of which was earned. Nick Gleason came in for relief to pick up the save, pitching 4.0 shutout innings without allowing a hit. The Hawk's offense had six hits on the day, two of which came off the bat of Jack Morin. He accounted for three RBIs and one run scored. Ty Cali had a multi-hit day, and Aidan Hawley scored two runs and had one hit in the game.

FDU-Florham (8-12) scored six of its seven runs on the day in the first two innings of their non-conference face off with Baruch (1-8) that helped the Devils best the Bearcats, 7-2 on Tuesday afternoon. The Devils were led by Brody Donovan who collected two hits, three RBI, a double and a run scored as well as Jake Hendershot who went 4-for-5 with a triple, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Matt Aber also had an impressive outing when he notched his seventh multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored. It was a bullpen day for the Devils that saw eight different Devils get their chance on the mound. Christian Weippert got the start and pitched two innings and allowed no runs, no hits and struck out a batter. In relief, it was Jonathan Rodenhaver who was credited with a win when he pitched 1.1 innings and allowed no hits, no runs and struck out two batters. Evan Sabo led the pitchers on the day in strikeouts with three.

In a mid-week game against regional opponent Hendrix (16-8), #7 East Texas Baptist held off the Warriors, 7-5. ETBU is now 18-6 on the year. ETBU used five pitchers in the game as Tate Sloan earned his first collegiate win going one inning with one strikeout. Robert Croft came for the final two innings for his fifth save of the year recording three strikeouts. On the day, ETBU had 10 strikeouts as starter Jacob Sherman had three, Hayden Robicaux one, and Brayden Hodges two strikeouts. With 17 hits, seven players had two or more hits. Dylan Burnaman led the way going 4-of-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Nicolas Chavez add three hits, and Jacob Evangelista, Connor Massimini, Brett Wagner, Cameron French, and Colby Harris had two hits. Massimini led the team with three RBI as Burnaman recorded two RBI, and Wagner had one.

St. Olaf improved to 4-1 on its trip to Florida with a 7-3 win over Williams College on Tuesday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Sports Park. St. Olaf (9-7) jumped out to an early lead with a four-run second inning and led Williams (4-6) by at least three runs the rest of the way to claim its third consecutive victory. Four pitchers combined to limit the Ephs to one earned run with eight strikeouts in the win. In his first collegiate start, first year Sam Hruska surrendered just an unearned run over the first 3.0 innings before giving way to three relievers. Junior Matthew Oberlander struck out three over the next 2.0 frame, yielding a run on three hits. First year Carter Follman picked up his second win of the season by striking out two and facing the minimum of six batters in the sixth and seventh before senior Brock Brumley fanned two over the final 2.0 innings.

Penn State Altoona returned home on Tuesday afternoon and recorded its first doubleheader sweep of the season, as the Lions won both ends of a twinbill with non-conference opponent Waynesburg, 4-2 and 8-5, at Stewart Athletic Field. The Lions got strong pitching throughout the first game of the doubleheader and used a four-run third inning to defeat Waynesburg by two. Eric Seick earned his second win of the season on the pitching mound. In six innings, the right-hander limited Waynesburg to one earned run while scattering six hits, issuing no walks, and striking out a pair of batters. Corey Chamberlain pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record his fourth save of the season. The Lions carried their pitching success over into the second game, where Penn State Altoona got another good start on the mound. The home team grabbed an early lead and held on to clinch the sweep over the Yellow Jackets. Tristin Lockett picked up his second victory of the spring on the mound, tossing six scoreless innings while holding the visitors to just two hits and two walks and recording three strikeouts. Caiden Bonsell pitched 2/3 inning in relief, and Chamberlain recorded the game's final out with a strikeout to secure his fifth save of the year.

Montclair State surged past DeSales 14-6 on Tuesday afternoon at Yogi Berra Stadium. Sam Angelo finished with a game-high four hits and four RBI. He extended his on-base streak to 45 consecutive games dating back to March 24, 2023. Matt Kaliske tallied three hits on the day and has collected 10 over his last four games. Matthew Tiplady earned the victory, throwing four innings of relief and striking out three. Montclair is 53-11 at Yogi Berra Stadium since the 2020 season. They have outscored opponents 97-59 at home during the 2024 campaign. The victory marked the 10th at home this season for the Red Hawks, marking the fourth-straight year Montclair has won double-digit games at home. "Always good to get a win versus a quality program like DeSales," said Head Coach Dave Lorbe. "Nice way to end the first half of the season and we look forward to NJAC play this weekend."

Sophomore Nathan Chen delivered a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth to knock in senior Myles Webb with the game-winning run as Randolph-Macon nipped Virginia Wesleyan 9-8 in ODAC action on Tuesday afternoon. With the score knotted at 8-8, Webb was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the ninth. Freshman Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) laid down a sacrifice bunt to third. No one covered third, so Webb kept running and ended up at third. Chen hit a fly ball to left that was deep enough to bring home Webb with the game-winner. RMC extended its win streak to six games.

Junior Justin Guest went 4-for-5 with two RBI and graduate student Luke Tanner homered twice and knocked in four runs to help visiting Babson defeat MIT, 14-8, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference action on Tuesday afternoon at O'Brien Field. Senior Tanner Santos went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three stolen bases, while classmate Ike Kiely and first-year Alexander Wilson finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored to pace the Beavers' 16-hit attack. Sophomore Walter Sadowsky singled and scored twice and senior Brant Savage singled and knocked in a run in the victory.

Mitchell junior Chris Gibbs turned in a dominant performance over Lasell in GNAC action on Tuesday afternoon, twirling eight innings of one-run ball to power the Mariners past the Lasers by a 6-1 final. Gibbs surrendered just four hits and struck out two to improve his record to 4-0 on the season for the Mariners, who have reeled off three consecutive victories to open conference play. Senior Owen Robbins finished 2-5 with a double, one RBI, and one run scored. Fellow senior Cole Calli added a double and a pair of RBI, freshman Chas Terni Jr. drove in a run on a base hit, and senior Angel Galindez picked up two hits and two runs. Lasell starter Matthew Fletcher allowed five runs (four earned) across four innings of work to earn the loss, dropping his record to 2-2 this spring. Graduate student Brad Edwards finished 2-3 with a walk for the Lasers, accounting for half of his team's four hits.

Union ended their spring break trip on a high note with an 11-8 win over Purchase College on Tuesday afternoon in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. Junior Sam Strazza was a single short of the cycle and went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Senior Kobe Mentzer also registered two extra-base hits with a double and a homerun with three runs scored and an RBI. Sophomore Jack Klein picks up his first win of the season with only two hits in three innings of work. Senior Bryce Fournier earned his first save of the season after getting the last two outs in the ninth and worked out of a bases-loaded jam.

the country Tuesday afternoon, blasting a season-best five
homers and scoring four runs in a decisive eighth inning to
secure a hard-fought 12-8 win over the Profs.

Rochester captured a series win after earning a doubleheader split with visiting St. Lawrence University on Tuesday afternoon at Towers Field.St. Lawrence won game one 10-8 before Rochester closed the series with a 12-8 game two victory. Monday's and Tuesday's games were a rescheduled series from this past weekend, as snow in the Rochester area forced the contests to move back a few days.

No. 1 Endicott defeated Suffolk, 23-2 (7 inn.), in conference action on Tuesday evening at North Field. The Gulls scored 10 runs combined between the second (2) and third (8) innings to put the conference mercy rule in play and never looked back in the contest. Nicolas Notarangelo got the offense going in the second inning with a two-run single up the middle. In the third, Joey Frammartino belted a no-doubt grand slam to right field giving the hosts a 6-0 lead, at the time. Dylan Pacheco followed later in the frame with a two-run double to center before another pair of runs scored on miscues to cap the eight-run inning. All told, Frammartino (5), Pacheco (2), Notarangelo (2), and Joey Scrofani (Wakefield, R.I.) (2) plated multiple runners in the victory.

The fifth-ranked Salisbury baseball team posted its largest margin of victory of the season, opening up a 19-run final tally in a 22-3 win over the Widener Pride on Tuesday afternoon at the Widener Baseball Field. The Sea Gulls set the tone early as they put up a crooked number in its first turn at-bat. Leading 8-3, the Sea Gulls broke it open in the final two innings. Six came home in the eighth on a Dylan Winebrenner two-run double, Brian Wilson bases-loaded hit by pitch, Roman March two-run double, and Kyle Brex two-run single that made it 14-3. As part of an eight-run ninth, SU got its runs on a Sheeler two-run home run, Wilson RBI single, bases-loaded walks by Trent Waire and Ethan Ruiz, an Alex Craig two-run single, and an RBI fielder's choice by Zach Geesaman to give the game its final 22-3 score.

Elizabethtown moved their win-streak to six, Tuesday after defeating Moravian, 7-2 in a low-hitting affair. The game was slow to start as the first 2.5 innings were pretty quiet with only one hit between the two teams. Elizabethtown (13-6,6-2) got things going in the bottom of the third as they scored three runs. Elizabethtown extended their lead to 7-0 in the sixth as the tallied three more runs. Moravian scored their second and final run in the ninth off an RBI-single. Logan Burns went the distance pitching seven innings and striking out five. Agriss went 1-3 with three RBIs and a double.

In a thrilling display of firepower on the diamond, the Cougars continued to dominate their non-conference campaign with an electrifying 18-8 victory. The game showcased a pitching carousel with ten hurlers taking the mound, while explosive hitters ignited a fireworks display of runs. With a barrage of hits and strategic pitching maneuvers from the Cougar bullpen, aka The Night Shift, the contest delivered non-stop action from the first pitch to the final out, setting the tone for an exhilarating season ahead. Jake Mahler led at the plate going a perfect four for four while picking up five runs and two RBIs. Mahler also secured one stolen base with three putouts. Ten arms worked the mound for the Cougars for a total of 14 strikeouts.

Cairn faced off with Penn College at Historic Bowman Field, home of the Major League Baseball Little League Classic, splitting with the Wildcats, winning 6-4 in game one and dropping game two, 13-5. Redshirt junior righty Connor Ferguson got the start in ngame one, going 3.1 innings with three strikeouts and a single earned run, getting the no decision. Sophomore right hander Greg Jessup picked up the win with 3.2 scoreless innings. Game two would carry a much different tone as the Wildcats jumped out to a 9-1 lead through the first two innings, adding two more each in the fourth and fifth as Penn College worked a split on the day.

Cortland led by five runs entering the bottom of the seventh and held off a late rally by Oneonta over the final three innings and the visiting Red Dragons defeated the host Red Dragons, 6-5, to complete a three-game, two-day sweep in SUNYAC action. Will McCarthy earned the win, allowing just one unearned run on three hits over six innings. He struck out five and walked two. Greg Mays, Cortland's fourth reliever, entered with one out in the bottom of the eighth. He allowed two hits, including a Logan Hutter RBI single that cut Cortland's lead to 6-5, but struck out the next batter to end the inning. Oneonta put the potential tying run on second with one out in the ninth after an error following a strikeout in the dirt, but Mays induced a flyout and then struck out the final batter for the save.

Keystone won a thriller at Christy Mathewson 9-8 against William Paterson Wednesday afternoon. Justin Mann went 3-for-3 with three RBI. Darren Hagan went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Cooper Fesh tallied two base hits. Cam Hale got the start and went four innings where he allowed one earned run and struck out five batters. Will Rodriguez, Matthew McElligott, Julian Gonzalez, and Dylan Byler appeared in relief. Byler earned his first win of the season as he pitched the last two innings of the contest. The junior struck out three batters and gave up one hit. The Giants got off to a hot start as they scored four runs through the first three innings. The Pioneers answered back in a huge way as they combined for seven runs through the fourth and fifth inning. Keystone cut into their deficit as they tallied a run in the fifth and sixth inning. William Paterson responded with a solo home run in the top of the seventh. The eighth inning is where the game went in Keystone's favor. Robert Estrada delivered the game tying two-RBI single. Later in that inning, Mann would score off a wild pitch to seal the deal and give the Giants the win.

Augustana wrapped up its stay at the RussMatt Invitational on Tuesday, defeating the No. 21 ranked Kalamazoo Hornets by a score of 4-2. After a scoreless opening inning, the Hornets scratched two unearned runs across in the bottom half of the second. Dymitri Kanellakis brought the Vikings within one two innings later, securing his second home run of the Florida trip with a shot over the left-field fence. Riley Fuller began another scoring rally in the fifth with a leadoff walk, later coming around to score on an RBI double from Daniel Mosele to even the game at 2-2. A pair of run-scoring singles by Colton Davis and Michael Aragon in the sixth put Augie out in front at 4-2 for good. Kalamazoo saw just two base runners through the final three innings, with both being eliminated from the base pads via a pickoff and double play. As a team, the Vikings turned four double plays. Zach DeMarlie went four innings on the mound to start the game for Augustana, not allowing an earned run through four innings of work. Brian Fischer notched his fourth win of the season, completing the final five innings and allowing just one hit. The Vikings out-hit the Hornets 6-4 in the win, led by Mosele's 2-4 effort at the plate.

Ithaca began its Liberty League schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Clarkson, 3-1 and 12-5, at Cornell's Booth Field. The Bombers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and Clarkson got one back to make it 3-1. The run was setup by a bloop single to right center and a double to left. The Golden Knights threatened in the top of the sixth by loading the bases with two outs, but Colin Leyner got out of the jam by inducing a fly ball to right and preserving IC's 3-1 lead. Leyner concluded his outing after the seventh and finished his day with seven strikeouts to two walks and five hits allowed. Conor Burns tossed the final two innings of relief to earn his second save of the season as he struck out two and gave up just one hit. Clarkson got on the board first in the night cap with a two-run third inning, adding another run in the fourth inning. Ithaca broke through in the bottom of the fourth inning with four runs on three hits to take a 4-3 lead. The Bombers plated three more runs in the sixth inning and blew the game open in the seventh with four more runs to extend its lead to 11-3. Ithaca produced 12 hits in the win and drew 10 walks. Curtis, Brawdy and Pedersen each notched two hits in the contest.

Justin Massielo's two-run double in the ninth etched his place into the record books, becoming just the sixth member of the 200 hit club in the Arcadia University baseball teams 16-11 non-conference win at Haverford College on Tuesday. Haverford again tied the score in the bottom of the seventh on a three-run homer but Tommy Ajjan led off the ninth with a solo home runs, and the Knights never looked back as they crossed the plate times to finish the scoring.

Bridgewater (Va.) got back in the win column defeating Washington and Lee 10-7 on Tuesday. The Generals added three more runs in their half of the fourth inning for a tied game, 5-5. The top of the sixth was the turning point for BC starting off with Kyle Carlson hitting a ball deep to left field for a double. Five batters later, Bridgewater up 9-5. The Generals tacked on one more run in the bottom of the ninth inning with a double hit to center field. Nick Harris closed out the game getting the last batter on a ground out to secure the 10-7 win.

Lynchburg won its third consecutive comeback victory with a 9-8 win over Methodist Tuesday. During a six-run seventh inning, Quinn Madden notched the go-ahead hit with a three-RBI double to complete a six-run backpack. Madden was 2-5 with four RBI on the day. Lynchburg and Methodist traded runs in the first with Brandon Garcia getting the Hornets on the board first. Ryan Long scored on the play and got the start at first as Josh Gjormand made his fourth start on the mound. Gjormand let up a six-spot in the fourth inning and was pulled for Domenic Rowlands. After Rowlands got through 1.1 innings allowing one run, the Lynchburg bullpen used four arms to shut out the Monarchs. Trent Judd earned the win as he pitched two full innings with three Ks and was the pitcher of record as Lynchburg completed their comeback in the seventh. Four Hornets had multiple hits on the day led by Benton Jones' 3-4 performance.
