FROSTBURG, Md. – Senior Daniel Heatwole (Dayton, Va./Turner Ashby) laid down a suicide squeeze in the bottom of the seventh to bring home the winning run and lift the Frostburg State baseball team over No. 3 Shenandoah, 2-1, Tuesday afternoon. The win marks the third time the Bobcats have defeated a ranked opponent.

The Bobcats are now 23-11 while the Hornets suffer just their fifth loss of the season with a 33-5 overall record.

Senior pitcher Greg Ross (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) had another quality start on the mound for the Bobcats, throwing seven innings, scattering five hits and just one run with four walks while striking out five Hornets to move into third all-time for a single season in strikeouts with 89. Ross was able to pitch himself out a jam four times, with two inning-ending double play balls with a runner on third and getting two Hornets to strike out with runners in scoring position.

The Hornets got on the board first in the top of the fourth with an RBI-single up the middle to score Cory Nelson but Ross got Clint DeHaven chasing the third strike to get out of the inning.

Frostburg State put up two runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead, 2-1. Freshman Tyler Hawthorne (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. Dupont) and junior Adam Summerfelt (Gambrills, Md./Archbishop Spalding) hit back-to-back singles to put runners on first and third for the Bobcats. Junior Torian Cyrus (Beaver Falls, Pa./Beaver Falls (Potomac State)) came out as a pinch runner for Summerfelt before senior Matt Ridenour (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) came out as a pinch hitter and singled to right field to score Hawthorne and tie the game at one and put the winner run at third base. Heatwole laid down a perfect suicide squeeze to get Cyrus home and bring the score to 2-1, which would be the eventual final. The Bobcats are now a perfect 14-0 when leading after the seventh inning.

Senior Josh Davis (Freeland, Md./Hereford (Webber International)) came out in relief of Ross in the eighth and pitch two perfect final innings for his second save of the season. Davis had one strike out over his two innings.

Ridenour and Heatwole each had an RBI while Hawthorne and Summerfelt each had a multiple-hit game.

The Bobcats return to action when they host former Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent, Penn State Altoona, on Friday for the team's senior day doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
