DEMOREST, Ga. - The pitching arm of senior Jason Fryman and timely hitting in the top of the eighth inning propelled the Adrian College baseball squad to a 3-1 win over fourth-ranked (Collegiate Baseball Newspaper) Christopher Newport on Monday, Feb. 27 at Loudermilk Field on the campus of Piedmont College.

Fryman hurled his best performance of his career allowing just three hits in a complete-game, nine-inning masterpiece. He allowed one earned run and did not walk a batter while recording seven punchouts. The Captains took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Shortstop Billy Steel doubled to start the inning and was later thrown out at the plate. Connor Madden reached on the fielder's choice play which resulted in Steel being tossed out at the plate and he later scored on Matt Shoemaker's RBI double with one out.

Greg Goldsmith did not get a lot of credit for a great start for the Captains. He went seven innings and allowed four hits with three walks and nine strikeouts. Ryan Fleischmann relieved in the bottom of the eighth and that is when the Bulldogs scored three times. Andrew DeLuca led off with a walk and Cody Meyer sacrificed him to second base with a bunt. Mitch Stefanski followed with an RBI double to tie the game at 1-1. AC then strung together two more doubles as Michael Herzog drove in Stefanski and Garrett Green drove in Herzog to give the Bulldogs a two-run cushion.

Fryman did the rest as he retired six of the next seven batters in the eighth and ninth innings to preserve the victory. Christopher Newport fell to 5-2 overall while Adrian is 2-0. The Bulldogs will face host Piedmont College tomorrow at 3:00 PM. Rylie Robinson is scheduled to start against the 24th-ranked team in Division III.
