          The Millikin baseball team lost its 2014 home opener 12-5 to Washington University-St. Louis on March 20 at Sunnyside Park in Decatur, Ill.

          The Bears jumped out to a 3-0 in the first inning highlighted by a two-run homerun by Chris Lowery.

          Millikin answered back with two runs in the bottom of the first to make it 3-2.

Freshman third baseman Andrew Huss run home the Big Blue's two runs with a double.

          Washington University-St. Louis broke open the game with a six run third inning to go up 9-2.  Millikin did rally for three in the bottom of third, but were shutout by the Bears bullpen the rest of the way.  Huss picked up this third RBI of the game in the inning on a sacrifice fly.  Frank Barnes and Cody Mirabal had the other Millikin runs batted in.

          Andrew Hendrian led the Millikin hitters going 2-5.

          First baseman Zack Kessinger was the only Bear player with more than one hit going 2-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. 

          Chris Sanderson picked up the win in relief for Washington University-St. Louis.  Kyle Davidson took the loss for Millikin.

          The Bears are now 6-7 on the season while Millikin goes to 4-5.

          Millikin will be back in action on Saturday, March 22 with a home doubleheader against Dominican University starting at 1 p.m.  The games were originally scheduled for Chicago area, but were moved to Decatur due to Schaumburg Stadium not playable yet this season.
