The No. 14 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team earned another victory Friday on the first day of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship (presented by Culver's) at Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium.

After opening the day with a 6-1 triumph over UW-Stout, the Warhawks (33-9 overall) improved to 2-0 for the tournament with a 1-0 victory over UW-La Crosse and will play for the tournament title Saturday at 3 p.m.

Senior Michael Kaska tossed a one-hit shutout to lead UW-Whitewater. He tallied 14 strikeouts and faced only two batters over the minimum in the 103-pitch performance to improve to 6-3 on the season.

The Warhawks tallied their lone run in the seventh on a groundout by junior right fielder Alex Doud that plated sophomore designated hitter Connor Moroder.

Sophomore shortstop Nick Santoro posted two hits to lead the offense. Senior third baseman Cal Aldridge reached base twice on a walk and a hit-by-pitch.

The Eagles (26-14) will face UW-Platteville in an elimination game Saturday at 12 p.m. If the winner of that contest defeats UW-Whitewater immediately following, a winner-take-all game will be played at approximately 6 p.m.
