The City College of New York Athletic Department has announced its
next Head Baseball Coach and Fitness Coordinator, and that person
is Steven Macias, an individual who is not only familiar with the
CUNY Athletic Conference its surrounding schools, but a person who
brings a plethora of coaching and administrative experience with
him to the institution.
Prior to accepting the position at City College, Macias served as
the Director of Athletics and the Head Baseball Coach at the
College of Mount Saint Vincent. There, he directed and supervised
the administration of the men’s and women’s athletic
programs including all administrative, operational, and business
functions of the Department of Athletics. As the college’s
baseball coach, Macias’ best year at the helm came in 2008
when he led the Dolphins to a 23-17 record and to the final game of
the Skyline Conference Tournament. That year, his team also
appeared in the ECAC Tournament as well.
In addition, the Yonkers, NY native served as the Acting Director
of Athletics/Head Baseball Coach during the summer of 2008, and the
Assistant AD/Baseball Coach from August of the 2006 though May of
2008. From July 2004 through August of 2006, he served as the
Director of Athletics and as a Physical Education Teacher at
Haldane Central School District.
Macias’ coaching success in the CUNY ranks could be traced
back to his time at Lehman College from December of 1994 through
September of 1996 when he served as the Head Baseball Coach and
Academic Counselor there. In 1995, not only did he help the team
win the City University of Athletic Conference Championship, but he
received the Louisville Slugger Award for excellence in coaching.
That season culminated with him being named the Coach of the Year.
In 1996, he guided the Lightning to the ECAC New York/New Jersey
Championship.
Macias received his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education
from SUNY Cortlandt, and also earned a Master’s in that same
area of concentration from Lehman College in 1996. 11 years later,
he solidified a Master’s Degree in Leadership for Educational
Change from the Bank Street College of Education. Now at the City
College of New York, Macias looks forward to guiding CCNY’s
baseball unit to elite status.
“It’s a great honor to be chosen as the man to lead
City College’s baseball team into the future,” Macias
said. “This is a school with excellent tradition and a rich
history. It’s a beautiful campus, and the staff is extremely
diverse and helpful. This is a tremendous opportunity to coach a
team that has a terrific foundation and a real opportunity to be
successful. With hard work, commitment, and persistence, the future
for the baseball program here at CCNY is bright. I’m excited
to get started.”
City College of New York Director of Athletics – Jackee
Meadow – is very excited with Macias’ hiring and
believes that positive things are on the horizon for CCNY’s
baseball squad.
“Steve is a terrific fit for our Athletic Department here at
CCNY,” Meadow said. “He comes to us with a tremendous
amount of administrative and coaching experience. His passion and
dedication was a glaring strength of his, and something that we
welcome into our family as we continue to strive for success in all
facets of our everyday operations. It’s a pleasure to have
him on board.”
