UMHB's Burrow no-hits Southwestern

Taylor Burrow threw the season's first no-hitter for Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Mary Hardin-Baylor rode Taylor Burrow's no-hitter to a game two win to complete a doubleheader sweep of Southwestern Saturday afternoon in Belton. UMHB won both games by 3-1 scores to make it three straight wins over the Pirates to improve to 3-1 on the year. Southwestern falls to 0-7 on the year with the two losses.

Burrow's dominating performance was the key to the Cru's 3-1 win in game two. He struck out 10, walked three and allowed just an unearned run to even his record at 1-1. UMHB took a 1-0 lead on Josh Fredrick's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first. Southwestern took advantage of two errors, a walk and a passed ball to score a run to tie it at one in the top of the third. Chris Florack scored on a pickoff play in the bottom of that frame to put UMHB up 2-1 and the Cru added an insurance run on Florack's RBI double in the fifth. Colton Mikulencak took the loss for the Pirates to drop to 0-2. Florack and Seth Mogavero had two hits apiece for UMHB.

The Cru grabbed control of game one in the middle innings on the way to a 3-1 win. Chris Joshlin's fourth inning RBI single broke a scoreless tie to make it 1-0 UMHB. The Cru added a run on Cody Emerson's RBI double in the fifth and took a 3-0 lead on Mogavero's RBI single in the sixth. Southwestern cut it to 3-1 on Zachary Lynch's RBI single in the seventh, but Kel Shannon snuffed out the rally to earn the save. Chance Ryan pitched five innings of our-hit, scoreless baseball to get the win. Joshlin, Mogavero and Emerson each had two hits for UMHB.
