Mary Hardin-Baylor rode Taylor Burrow's no-hitter to a game two
win to complete a doubleheader sweep of Southwestern Saturday
afternoon in Belton. UMHB won both games by 3-1 scores to make it
three straight wins over the Pirates to improve to 3-1 on the year.
Southwestern falls to 0-7 on the year with the two losses.
Burrow's dominating performance was the key to the Cru's 3-1 win
in game two. He struck out 10, walked three and allowed just an
unearned run to even his record at 1-1. UMHB took a 1-0 lead on
Josh Fredrick's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first.
Southwestern took advantage of two errors, a walk and a passed ball
to score a run to tie it at one in the top of the third. Chris
Florack scored on a pickoff play in the bottom of that frame to put
UMHB up 2-1 and the Cru added an insurance run on Florack's RBI
double in the fifth. Colton Mikulencak took the loss for the
Pirates to drop to 0-2. Florack and Seth Mogavero had two hits
apiece for UMHB.
The Cru grabbed control of game one in the middle innings on the
way to a 3-1 win. Chris Joshlin's fourth inning RBI single broke a
scoreless tie to make it 1-0 UMHB. The Cru added a run on Cody
Emerson's RBI double in the fifth and took a 3-0 lead on Mogavero's
RBI single in the sixth. Southwestern cut it to 3-1 on Zachary
Lynch's RBI single in the seventh, but Kel Shannon snuffed out the
rally to earn the save. Chance Ryan pitched five innings of
our-hit, scoreless baseball to get the win. Joshlin, Mogavero and
Emerson each had two hits for UMHB.
