Keystone caps CSAC four-peat

More news about: Keystone

Boyertown, PA (5-6-12) –  Blaine O'Brien (Scituate, MA/Scituate) worked seven and a-third innings and CSAC Player of the Year Esteban Meletiche (Philadelphia, PA/Frankford ) kick started the Keystone offense, as the Giants breezed by Neumann University 10-3 to win their fourth straight Colonial States Athletic Conference baseball title.

Meletiche also added some my hardware to his collection by taking home tournament MVP honors for his play.

Third ranked Keystone, which earns the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament, moves to 35-5 on the year, while Neumann falls to 30-13.

Keystone will now wait until late next weekend to learn their regional seeding and where they will play, as the Giants look to a possible return to the Division III World Series.

O'Brien allowed three runs on five hits while striking out nine as the senior continued his standout campaign.

Meletiche wrapped up the day with a two for three day, which included a double, scoring twice and driving in one.

Miquel Castano (Miami, FL/Miami Springs) had a three hit afternoon, scoring twice as Keystone knocked out 10 hits.  Chris Bzozowski (Westampton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) doubled as part of his two hit day, as the designated hitter also drove in three.

Lymbel Guerrero (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) and Gaston Rojas (Carmel, NY/Carmel) homered and drove in a pair.

Keystone showed up ready to play, scoring four times in the opening inning.  Three-time conference Player of the Year Meletiche led off things with a hustle double down the leftfield line and came around to score when Bzozowski doubled to deep right-center for a quick 1-0 lead.

Guerrero became the third straight Keystone player to reach base, depositing a ball deep over the leftfield fence for a 3-0 lead.  The Giants made it 4-0 in the first frame after Jhon Comas (Yonkers, NY/Gregorio Luperon) led off with a walk, stole second, advance to third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch.

The Giants tacked on another run in second as Meletiche singled home Castano who singled and stole second.  O'Brien worked out of trouble in the top half, stranding runners on second and third.

Neumann broke onto the board in the third as Bill Pace singled to lead off the inning and came around to score on a RBI groundout.

The fourth inning saw the Giants put up a three spot with Comas scoring the first run when Castano singled to left and the fielder had trouble handling the ball.  Bzozowski picked up another pair of RBI with a two out single to left that plated Castano and Meletiche.

Keystone hit double digits in the fifth inning as Gaston Rojas (Carmel, NY/Carmel) deposited a towering shot over the leftfield fence to score Comas as well for a 10-1 advantage.  Neumann would take advantage of four Keystone walks in inning number eight, scoring two, but a heads up play by the Giants resulted in an unconventional double play to prevent further damage.
