West Harrison, NY (Mar. 16, 2013) – Mitchell Paz made Purchase history on Saturday at Silver Lake Park, tossing a five-inning, complete game no-hitter against John Jay.

Paz' no-no highlighted an afternoon of amazing offense for the Panthers, who swept both ends of the non-conference doubleheader in shutouts. Purchase won game one 13-0 and capped the day with a 20-0 mercy-rule win, as Paz (SO/Bridgeport, CT), a first-year transfer, tossed a no-hitter.

In the opener, Miller Lulow (SR/New York, NY) pitched a complete-game shutout. The righty allowed only three hits, struck out four, and walked none. He was backed up offensively by a lineup that banged out 20 hits. Nineteen players took swings Saturday and almost all of them connected.

Ronald Echevarria (SR/Bronx, NY) was 3 for 4 with a homerun, a double, two RBI and two runs; Michael Skoller (JR/East Meadow, NY) was 3 for 5 with a double, an RBI and run; Justin Sherman (SR/New Rochelle, NY) was 2 for 5, two RBI and a run; Colin Morris (SR/Bridgeport, CT) was 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run; Frank Fiumara (SR/Port Chester, NY) was 2 for 2 with a double, two RBI and two runs; Daniel Stroud (SR/Nyack, NY) was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run; and Josh Spielberg (SR/Oceanside, NY) was 2 for 4 with two RBI and a run.

Game two belonged to Paz, who pitched around snow, holding John Jay down throughout.  The Panthers kept hitting while Paz got to pitching. The lineup accounted for 16 hits and once again used 19 players in another nice, collective effort.

Spielberg went 2 for 2 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs; John Jonas (JR/Goshen, NY) went 3 for 5 with a double, three RBI and two runs; Stroud went 2 for 3 with three RBI and a run; Sherman collected two more hits, including a double and a triple and drove in two and scored once; Skoller added two hits and an RBI and run; and Michael Sarni (SR/Shelton, CT) went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI and two runs.

“What a day,” said Purchase head coach Bill Guerrero. “Paz was marvelous and the lineup was outstanding. Everyone made a contribution. These are the kind of victories that can get a team rolling. I'm very pleased, and now we need to go back out there tomorrow and keep it up.”

The Panthers will now host Oneonta Sunday at Silver Lake.
