The Earlham College baseball team finished off a doubleheader
sweep of Johnson University on Saturday in a big way.
After winning the opener 11-4, Nate Hube
(Lebanon, OH, Lebanon) tossed the second no-hitter in Earlham
history as the Quakers won 12-0 in five innings.
"It was very good to get two wins to hopefully get us back on
track," Earlham Head Coach Steve Sakosits
said of the twinbill at UC Health Stadium, which is the home of the
Frontier League's Florence Freedom. "We have a tough doubleheader
on Sunday with Otterbein University that will be a good test for
us."
Hube (2-1) had seven strikeouts to go with six walks on Saturday
as he joins Gene Radio as the only Earlham hurlers to hold an
opponent hitless. Radio had his effort in 1968.
"I never realized I had a no-hitter until the end, but it's nice
to get one under the belt," Hube said. "It was nice to bounce back
from a rough start my last game and for us to rebound from a bad
series to come out and win two with authority."
Earlham began the second contest with a run in the first frame.
Sam Ward (Bay
Village, OH, Bay) scored when Alex Arovits
(Lebanon, OH, Lebanon) hit in a double play and the Quakers
had an early edge.
