Saints and Giants trade 1-0 scores

St. Scholastica and Keystone were on both sides of a pair of 1-0 scores. The Saints dropped the first game of the doubleheader 1-0 only to respond and win game two 1-0. Kyle Jensen got the start for the Saints in game one but would be hit with the hard luck loss. Keystone's Rob Rodgers was just as good for the Giants, striking out six and also allowed three hits in the complete-game shutout. Game two was a mirror image of game one. Mickie Keuning got the start for the Saints and struck out five and allowed only two hits in five innings of work. His counterpart Patrick Robinson struck out six in six innings and allowed four hits.

Lynchburg drove in eight runs in the first two innings against Methodist on its way to a 13-7 victory in non-conference action. Ashton Paige led the Hornets with a 4-for-6 day with three RBI.

Austin split its doubleheader against East Texas Baptist, falling 4-0 in game one before getting a 10-9 walk-off victory in extra innings in game two. Mason Leech brought home Coughennower with a single to tie things up, and after pinch runner Patrick Renz got to third on a wild pitch, Dylan Day delivered the walk-off victory with a base hit into right center.

David Lockwood's sharp line drive single down the third base line, just beyond a diving Piedmont third baseman, drove home Will Cleland with the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning as Covenant took a 9-8 win over Piedmont. Lockwood finished 3-for-5 with two runs, but the biggest hit came in the 11th inning. Scott Gillespie went 4-for-5 and threw out a pair of runners from right field.

Eighth-ranked Kean scored seven runs over the last two innings, including five in the top of the ninth, to rally for a 12-10 win over Ithaca in California. The Bombers led 8-7 headed to the top of the ninth, but a leadoff walk, four hits and two errors helped Kean build a 12-8 advantage. Ithaca responded with a rally in the bottom of the ninth, and scored two runs on four straight hits and a fielder's choice, and had two runners on base when Kean was able to get a fly out to end the game.

After going down 4-3 in the sixth inning, No. 20 rankedTexas-Tyler scored seven runs over the last two innings, outlasting non-conference opponent Hendrix 10-5.  Sophomore Garrett Nelson finished the night with 3 RBI in the win.

Senior shortstop Matt Keen homered twice and set the school career record for runs as the Case Western Reserve split a pair of games with Brandeis and Washington (Mo.) on day two of the 2013 UAA Championship at Sanford Memorial Stadium. The Spartans lost to the Judges, 4-1 in 10 innings, to open the day but bounced back to beat the Bears, 13-3 in seven innings.

Stevenson scored 10 consecutive runs, including sixth in the top of the sixth, to erase an 8-0 deficit and take a two-run lead in the top of the eighth, but Guilford responded with four runs in the bottom of the eighth to escape with a 12-10 victory at Edgar H. McBane Field. The Quakers scored four runs in the first inning on back-to-back-to-back home runs, sparked by a two-run shot by John Macon Smith. Corey Wallace and Charles Noble each followed with solo
homers to give Guilford a 4-0 lead.

Skidmore broke into the win column with a sweep of Edgewood. The Thoroughbreds won 6-5 and 8-7. In the first game, Chris Lorenz hit a walk-off single for the win. In the second game, the Thoroughbreds scored five runs with two outs in the top of the seventh for the dramatic win.

Wheaton (Ill.) swept a doubleheader from MacMurray in Fort Myers. The Thunder overcame a deficit three times to win game one 10-9 in 12 innings. In the second game, Michael Kaufman made his Thunder debut and went the distance on the mound registering 13 strikeouts to lead the Thunder to a 5-0 victory.

Following an hour rain delay, the second ranked Marietta scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the tenth inning to thwart an upset bid by Salem State. The Pioneers defeated the Vikings 7-6. The Pioneers received another strong performance from a freshman member of the pitching staff. Mike Finlan started and threw 8.0 superb innings. He scattered six hits and gave up one run. Finlan walked two and struck out five.

With two wins over Pitts-Bradford, the Kenyon Lords increased their current winning streak to six games. The Lords posted wins of 10-0 and 5-2 over the Panthers paced by Josh Jacobvitz's one hitter and another solid start by Tyler Dierke. 

Bridgewater (Va.) got back on the winning track with a 14-6 victory over Claremont-Scripps-Mudd. Ryan Smith led the Eagles 18-hit attack with a 4-for-6 day at the plate and two RBIs.

LaGrange rallied from an early three-run hole to beat Berry 7-6 in Williamson Stadium at Cleaveland Field. The Panthers had 12 hits off four Berry pitchers. Brandon Espinosa had three hits, while Brent Kinsey, Kyle Nerbonne and Keith Sims each had two. Kinsey had an RBI double included in his two hits.

LeTourneau hit the road on Tuesday to take on the Centenary Gents in a non-conference matchup. The Gents were able to get 16 runs in the first four innings to knock off the Jackets, 16-6.

Huntingdon scored four runs in the middle innings and used solid pitching to knock off 17th-ranked Birmingham-Southern 4-1 at Posey Field. The win was the fourth in four games since Friday for the Hawks and the second straight win over the Panthers.
