Huskies serve notice in New England

Junior Forrest Chadwick went 4-for-5, including two home runs, with five runs scored and four RBI as No. 18 Southern Maine defeated No. 11 Wheaton (Mass.) in a battle of nationally ranked teams Thursday afternoon at Sidell Stadium. Chadwick hit two-run homers in the seventh and eighth innings, his third and fourth round trippers of the season, to go along with two singles and a walk to pace the Huskies' 15-hit attack against six Lyons' hurlers.

The NJAC teams were playing their midweek conference games on Thursday. The marquee matchup pitted the two first place teams, Kean and William Paterson. The Kean Cougars took over sole possession of first place with a 9-4 win over the Pioneers. In other NJAC action it was Rowan 12, NJCU 2; Rutgers Newark 5, Ramapo 1; Montclair State 13, TCNJ 2; and Richard Stockton 7, Rutgers-Camden 6.

The Lynx took the season series over Newbury with an 8-4 win tonight in extra frames at Victory Park in Watertown, Mass. Sophomore third baseman John Gosnell went two-for-five with a double and two RBIs en route to the four-run victory. The Nighthawks pulled the score even in the bottom of the seventh to send it into extras before the Lynx batted around in the top of the tenth to grab their second consecutive win. 

Bolstered by a three-run fifth inning, Hiram defeated Thiel, 10-6 in non-conference action. Eric Steininger finished the day 2-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Cody Trinch went 3-for-4 with a RBI.

Penn State Behrend split an AMCC doubleheader with La Roche. The Lions took game one 3-0 before the Redhawks got revenge with a 6-3 victory in the nightcap. In a matchup of the top two teams in the conference, the Lions gave the ball to Ryan Jacobs on the mound and were not disappointed. Jacobs, coming off a historic performance on Sunday, threw 5.1 innings of scoreless baseball to pick up his sixth win of the year. In game two, La Roche tied the game in the fourth and plated three runs with two outs in the sixth to earn the split. Redhawk pitcher Ferguson Tyler scattered eight hits for the complete game win.

Roanoke, coming off a split with Bridgewater, moved into a three way tie for seventh place in the ODAC standings with a win over Lynchburg. The Maroons lost a 3-1 advantage before talling a run in the tenth inning for a 4-3 win.

Williams scored in each of its first six innings and went on to defeat Southern Vermont, 11-2, in a non-conference game at Bobby Coombs Field. three Ephs, Darren Hartwell, Matt Kastner, and Marco Hernandez, each had three hits. With the win, Williams ended an eight game skid.

Steve Sulcoski and Paul Shepard each went 3-4 while Sulcoski added 4 RBI as Misericordia earned a 9-4 non-conference victory over Moravian at Tambur Field. Matt Karabin  had a strong showing on the mound, scattering eight hits and two runs over seven innings while striking out three. In addition, Karabin became Misericordia's all-time leader in pitching appearances with 49 over the course of his four years with the Cougars.

Trying to build a late season spark, the Beacons changed things up a little bit in the final non-conference meeting with Framingham State.  Led by a solid pitching effort from lefty Nick Radcliffe and some clutch hitting in the late innings the Beacons recorded their second consecutive win with a 6-3 victory at Campanelli Stadium.

Senior Mike Cunningham homered, scored three times and drove in four runs while junior Devan Jones doubled and tripled to go along with three RBIs as visiting Suffolk used a seven-run seventh inning on its way to a 20-8 win over Babson. Suffolk snapped a three-game losing streak, sending Babson to their second straight loss.

Paced by a complete game, six-hit effort from freshman starter Rosario DiLorenzo and the offense belting a season-high 17 hits, the St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) defeated John Jay by the score of 11-3 at Padavan-Preller Field. Bears first baseman Mike Cundari picked up his 100th career hit en route to a 3-for-5 day at the plate with a RBI, run and triple. St. Joseph's  has now defeated John Jay for the second time this week, handing them their 10 loss in a row.

Freshman Jon Chotkowski pitched seven innings allowing three runs and striking out seven as the Rivier defeated visiting New England College, 7-3 in a non-conference contest inside of Historic Holman Stadium.
