More news about: Bethany Lutheran

Mankato, Minn. - Cory Ferm strengthened his status as one of the best pitchers in the UMAC on Monday by throwing a no-hitter against Martin Luther in game one of a doubleheader Monday at the BLC Baseball Field.

Ferm faced one batter over the minimum only allowing two base runners, both on walks, in the 8-0 Vikings win.

He also helped himself out at the plate going 3-for-5 with three runs scored.

After scoring one run in the second, Bethany put up five in the fourth, all with two outs, which was more than enough for Ferm. Ferm started the rally with a single to left. After Clint Aretz walked, Deric Poldberg hit a single to center to score Ferm. Nate Lee then belted a 3-run home run to left, his second homer of the season. Joe Tuholsky and Dylan Gass both singled and Lucas Herd delivered an RBI single to right center to score Tuholsky putting Bethany up 6-0.

Seven Bethany batters had at least two hits as the Vikings connected on 17 base knocks.

The stellar pitching continued in game two, but this time it was Martin Luther who was shutting down the Vikings. Jake Ziel threw a complete game six-hitter while only allowing one run as the Knights took the nightcap 5-1.

MLC scored a run in each of the first four innings off starter Jake Gleason. The runs in the first two innings were RBI groundouts. Andrew Nemmers and and Tyler Dorn delivered RBI base hits in the third and fourth, respectively.

Bethany's lone run came in the third when Adam Geiger singled home Gass.

The Vikings picked up six hits in game two with Tuholsky and Geiger each getting a pair.

The split puts the Vikings at 13-13 overall and 9-3 in the UMAC. They will now play a doubleheader at Northwestern tomorrow to wrap up the regular season.

Bethany has already clinched a spot in the UMAC postseason tournament which will now begin on Friday in Duluth.
