Sunday: Augie locks down tourney bid

Dan Fifer went 6-for-6 with two runs scored and Jared McIntosh and Darwin Townsend combined on a three-hitter as No. 18 Augustana clinched the automatic bid from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin by dismantling No. 24 Illinois Wesleyan 12-1.

IWU, which had forced the winner-take-all game with a 4-2 win on Saturday, will be in the running for an at-large bid. D3baseball.com will publish its bracketology late Sunday night, in anticipation of the release of the field scheduled for 10 a.m. ET on Monday morning.

Sophomore Jared Jensen came up big for RPI, throwing a complete-game five-hitter as the Engineers shut out Union 7-0 to win the Liberty League tournament. Union, which was No. 6 in the last regional rankings, is deep on the bubble.

Second-ranked St. Thomas preserved someone's at-large chances by handling Concordia-Moorhead 11-2 in the final of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament. The MIAC tournament was reduced to a single-elimination event because weather prohibited the full MIAC schedule from being played. UW-La Crosse bounced UW-Whitewater from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament, defeating the Warhawks 12-2 on Sunday morning. UW-Whitewater is safely in the NCAA Tournament regardless, but UW-La Crosse came within two runs of popping someone's bubble. Needing to beat UW-Stevens Point twice, the Eagles won the opener 2-1 but fell 6-5 in the winner-take-all game.

Amherst finished off the NESCAC tournament with a 7-0 win against Wesleyan. Fred Shepard threw a complete-game six-hitter for the win, while Mike Odenwaelder and Conner Gunn each hit two-run singles in the fifth inning to break the game open for the Lord Jeffs (25-11).
