Lynchburg picked up a pair of wins against two teams picked to finish at the top of their respective conferences on Saturday. The Hornets downed Christopher Newport 10-3 in game one before coming back to defeat 2013 NCAA tournament participant, Methodist, 4-3 in game two.

It was a tale of two different games as a valiant comeback fell short in game two, 19-14, after Southwestern (Texas) dropped a pitcher's duel to LeTourneau, 3-1, in the first game. Southwestern fell to 0-7 on the season in the loss as the Pirates completed a seven game road swing to open the season. LeTourneau is 3-0 on the young season.

The Trinity (Texas) Tigers split a doubleheader at Millsaps to open up a three-game weekend series between the former conference rivals. Trinity took the opening game 11-2, scoring eight runs over the final two innings to pull away with the win.  The Majors turned the tables with a 5-3 decision in game two, scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Emory junior Wes Peacock doubled in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, capping off a comeback that gave the Eagles a 4-3 win over Piedmont in the team's home opener at Chappell Park. The win is the third straight for the Eagles.

Lane Miles threw seven strong innings in his first collegiate start as Pomona-Pitzer took the second of two games from CMS 5-3 at Alumni Field. CMS won the opening game 11-7 in 10 innings, but the Sagehens earned the series win two games to one after taking the opener 4-3 at CMS yesterday.

Whitman ran its early-season record to 6-3 with a 6-4, come-from-behind victory over the Hendrix Warriors at Dr. Pepper Ballpark. The Missionaries, now 6-3 on the young season and winners of six of their last eight games, scored a run in the sixth inning, two more in the seventh, and three in the eighth as they rallied from a 4-0 deficit.

The day at Dr. Pepper Ballpark was not sunny for another NWC team. Puget Sound tallied their first two losses of the 2014 season Saturday night, falling 6-4 to Texas-Dallas and 9-0 to Hardin-Simmons.

Oglethorpe got their season off to an excellent start in Montgomery, Ala., scoring two runs in the ninth inning to defeat the home-standing Huntingdon Hawks, 7-5. Patrick Kulick's RBI double for the first extra-base hit of his Oglethorpe career broke the tie.

Ozarks picked up the third game of its series against Augsburg with a 7-5 win. After leading 7-3 after eight complete innings, Ozarks needed to hold off Augsburg in the ninth inning to secure the game. Augsburg posted two runs in the ninth and had a runner on second and third with two outs, but Andrew Beck went to the mound for the final out and promptly recorded a strikeout to end the contest.

East Texas Baptist split their doubleheader with the University of Dallas. East Texas Baptist University won the final game, 4-2, for their second win of the year and fell in the first game 4-0.

La Verne hosted Redlands for its official home opener and came away with a pair of wins to take the first SCIAC series on Saturday at Rio Hondo Community College.
