Shenadoah, Capital are winners on Monday

Shenandoah opened up its 2014 season Monday afternoon by sweeping a non-league doubleheader from Susquehanna. The Hornets were 3-0 winners in the opener before taking game two 7-1.

Franklin scored five runs in the final two innings to move ahead of Capital, but could not hold onto a ninth-inning lead in losing 7-6 at the RussMatt Classic at Auburndale, Florida on Monday.

Three LeTourneau pitchers struck out nine and the offense capitalized on five errors en route to an 8-5 win over Castleton at Conrad-Vernon Field. The YellowJackets scored in the first three innings including three in the first inning en route to the win. For the game, LeTourneau was only retired in 1-2-3 order just once in the win.

On a day where the wind would not quit at the SU Baseball Field, neither would the No. 13 Salisbury's bats. The Sea Gulls put up 18 hits in a 17-0, seven-inning win against Eastern Shore-foe Washington College.

Senior Joe O'Connor tallied two RBI and two hits as Kean came out with a win after the game was called for darkness against Neumann by the final of 4-3 in eight innings. Neumann had pulled ahead in the ninth but as the inning could not be finished, the score at the end of the eighth inning was final by rule.

Schreiner stopped a four game losing streak on Monday with a 11-2 win over Pacific.

Sophomore pitchers Mikey Garcia and Matt Barnett combined for seven strong innings and senior Chase Valdez was 4-for-4 as Schreiner beat Pacific 12-2 to end a four-game losing streak.  Pacific beat the Mountaineers earlier, 5-2, for a split of their doubleheader.

Huntingdon completed a three-game conference sweep of North Carolina Wesleyan with a 9-4 win. The Hawks scored four runs in the first two innings and five runs in the seventh and eighth innings to win their sixth straight game.
