Union freshman pitcher Jake Fishman tossed a no-hitter in the Dutchmen's 2-0 win over Bard on Saturday afternoon in Fishkill. The Dutchmen followed that performance by tying the Raptors 3-3 after the game was ended due to rain following the bottom of the seventh inning.

With the win and the tie the Dutchmen improve to 5-3-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in Liberty League play.

In game one, Fishman struck out seven, walked two and hit a batter to earn the seven-inning no-hitter. Fishman also was involved defensively, registering four assists in the field. Through his first two starts, Fishman is 2-0 with 14 strikeouts and only one earned run.

Freshman infielder Kent Curran's two-run single in the third provided all the runs the Dutchmen would need to finish off the Raptors in game one. Junior infielder Anders Goetz and senior infielder Joe Bradlee scored on the Curran single. Goetz and sophomore infielder Jeff Grasso also drew two walks a piece.

In Game 2, Bard went up 2-0 in the bottom of the first. Quinn McInerney walked and Jack Hawke singled, and after a double steal, Adam Carafotes drove them both home with a two-out single to right field.

In the top of the fifth inning the Dutchmen bats came alive. Sophomore outfielder Eric Egan started off the inning by grounding out to the short stop but Grasso followed with a double to right center. Bradlee singled down the right field line to score Grasso to get across the first run for Union. The Dutchmen then capitalized on a Bard error as senior captain Vincent Esposito reached base to prolong the inning and put Bradlee in scoring position. Esposito then forced another error by the Bard short stop as Bradlee crossed the plate to knot the game at two.

In the bottom of the fifth, Hawke singled and was sacrificed to second by Alec Montecalvo. Hawke went to third on a wild pitch and scored on another clutch single by Carafotes, this one to center. It stayed 3-2 until the top of the seventh, when Egan tied it with an unearned run on a throwing error by the Bard catcher. Carafotes reached on an error in the bottom of the seventh, but Bard didn't score and the game was called.

Freshman Greg Geisel started his second game of the season and struck out four while allowing three earned runs over five innings. Fellow Freshman Devin Martin pitched two scoreless innings in relief striking out four and walking only one.

The Dutchmen's rematches with Bard scheduled for tomorrow have been postponed until a later date. Their next scheduled matchup is a four-game set at St. Lawrence April 5-6.
