CHICAGO -- Rockford University Head Baseball Coach Bob Koopmann hit a coaching milestone with his team's 12-5 win in game two of its doubleheader against the University of Chicago. That win marked the 200th for Coach Koopmann during his tenure as head baseball coach at Rockford University.

"Our coaching staff's approach has been to recruit talented baseball players who are students first" Coach Koopmann commented. "We lay out a structure or path for them in order to help them succeed in both the classroom and on the field, aid them in developing their individual baseball skills, all while fitting into a team system where everyone is important and has a role."

Koopmann's philosophy has helped him and his staff build a winning tradition at Rockford. Through eight completed seasons, the Regents have averaged over 23 wins per year while winning 57 percent of their games. In conference play Rockford has really excelled winning over 70 percent of its games under Koopmann's guidance. Those wins have translated into three NACC regular season championships, seven postseason appearances and two NACC Tournament titles. Koopmann was also named the conference's coach of the year after the 2007 season when Rockford won both the regular season and conference tournament titles.

"I feel fortunate to be surrounded by good people: from assistant coaches to other members of our athletic staff" Koopmann stated. "Our faculty, staff, and especially our administration here at RU are second to none. However, it's the players that play here and have played here over these nine seasons that are the biggest reason for our program's success."

During his time at Rockford, Koopmann has coached numerous individuals who have been recognized for their outstanding play on the field. The Regents have had 32 All-NACC performers, 12 All-Region honorees and 5 All-Americans. Koopmann has also coached the NACC Player of the Year, the NACC Position Player of the Year, the Midwest Region Position Player of the Year and the NACC Freshman of the Year twice.

"It might sound rhetorical, but winning athletic games and being successful takes tremendous time and effort from everyone involved" Koopmann remarked.

That success continues to translate on the field as Rockford is once again in the running for a conference tournament berth this season. With ten conference games remaining, Rockford is right in the thick of the postseason race, and has a favorable schedule down the stretch run with six of their final ten NACC games at home. That home stretch begins on Sunday, April 19 when Rockford hosts MSOE at 2:00 p.m. at Aviators Stadium. The Regents will then play host to Benedictine on Sunday, April 26 before concluding their regular season at home on Friday, May 1 against Marian.
