ASHLAND, Wis. - Senior pitcher Kyle Strom (Crown Point, Ind.) threw his first career no-hitter to propel Northland College (13-20, 9-7 UMAC) past North Central 10-0 in seven innings.

Northland had the leadoff man reach in all seven innings and were able to put up big numbers in a pair of frames to cruise past the Rams. The Jacks opened the game scoring four runs in the first frame highlighted by a two RBI double to left-center from senior shortstop Matt Lennon (Reedsburg, Wis.). Senior first baseman Dan Kollauf (Ashland, Wis.) also recorded a run batted in to start the game as Northland led early 4-0.

The Jacks opened up the scoring again in the fifth when freshman second baseman Matt Alberino (Medford, Mass.) used a good two strike approach to sneak a single through the right side of the infield to plate a pair of runs. After a single from freshman catcher Alex Loberger (Maribel, Wis.) and a walk from freshman outfielder Jakob Freele (Smartville, Calif.), senior Jacob Hodgdon (Winnebago, Ill.) then cleared the bases with a three RBI double down the right field line to cap off a five run inning that put Northland up 9-0.

Hodgdon would double for the second time in the game to open the bottom half of the seventh and advance to third on a wild pitch shortly after. Junior outfielder Mitch Howard (Black Earth, Wis.) was then able to sneak a single down the right field line to end the game at 10-0 after seven innings.

Strom (6-4) went the distance in the first no-hitter in Northland program history since 2006 only allowing two runners to reach and striking out 11 hitters.

Hodgdon finished the game going 4-5 with three runs batted in, while Lennon would go 2-3 with a pair of runs batted in and a walk.

"We took care of business," commented head coach Ernie May following the game. "Kyle was great on the mound for us and our defense was strong behind him. We had some timely hitting and everything just seemed to come together, I'm excited to see what we can do tomorrow."

Northland finishes the series with North Central tomorrow, Saturday, April 25th, with a double-header scheduled to start at noon.
