Maryville rallies in ninth, Linfield rolls

Win a win over Emory and Henry on Sunday, Berry started 3-0 for the second time as a D-III program.

Maryville used a seven-run surge in the top of the ninth inning to defeat No. 11 Rhodes 13-10 on Sunday afternoon in Memphis, Tennessee. The Scots' Joe Jones earned the victory on the hill after closing the game with a pair of standout innings, striking out three while allowing only three hits. Jones closed the door after five other Maryville hurlers surrendered 10 hits and seven earned runs

Grant Perkins went 2-for-3 at the plate and John Melson got the win as Berry defeated Emory & Henry, 11-6. Both teams collected nine hits in the contest. Perkins was one of six Vikings who had hits in the game. Ben Jernigan (1-for-4, 3 RBI) knocked his second home run of the year in the third inning. Trey Rampy pitched four innings, allowed two runs and three hits.

Alex Hendra-Brown, Finn McMichael and Ryan Pladson provided the offensive fireworks with a trio of home runs as No. 14 Linfield remained unbeaten with a 7-1 victory over Whitman and 5-0 shutout against 17th-ranked Pacific Lutheran at Roy Helser Field. Lefty starters Carter Buuck and Cason Cunningham combined for 10 scoreless innings, with Buuck earning the Game 1 win and reliever Joe Perryman notching his second career varsity victory in the nightcap.

Texas-Tyler freshman Graham Welch had three hits and drove in four runs while Trenton Buchhorn, Alex Bishop and Ben Romines each delivered three RBI to help lead No. 22-ranked Texas-Tyler to a 21-7 win over the University of Dallas to complete a three-game sweep at Irwin Field

An impressive offensive performance pushed visiting LaGrange to a 7-1 win over Sewanee at historic Montgomery Field. LaGrange starter Eric Morell earned the win after he gave up no runs in 5.0 innings of scoreless work. As a team, the Panthers combined for 11 hits, which included five doubles, and six RBI.

Less than 48 hours after being swept in the season-opening doubleheader versus Wayland Baptist on the road, McMurry returned the favor by winning a twinbill at Walt Driggers Field. The War Hawks swept the Pioneers by scores of 5-1 and 10-5.

Washington and Lee scored four runs in the fourth inning en route to a 6-2 victory over St. Mary's (Md.) at Cap'n Dick Smith Field tostart the season 3-0. First-year Kevin McHugh pitched 3.0 innings of relief to earn the victory. He allowed one earned run on two hits and a walk. Senior Kyle Tipping started the game and went 4.0 innings. He gave up one run on three hits, while striking out three.
