Brandeis opened its 2016 season with a dramatic come-from-behind win, scoring three times in the top of the ninth inning to defeat St. Joseph's (Brooklyn), 4-3, in the first of three meetings between the two teams. The win was the first as head coach of the Judges for Derek Carlson '91. Elio Fernandez earned his first win since April 14, 2014 with 5.1 innings of four-hit relief. Ryan Healy came on in relief in the bottom of the ninth and retired the side in order for his first career save.

Junior Luis Palencia went 3-for-6 with three runs scored to help North Carolina Wesleyan secure a two-game sweep of Castleton at Bauer Field. Ryan Grant and Richard Harrell picked up wins on the mound for the Bishops, who move to 4-0 on the season.

Bridgewater (Va.) opened its season with a 5-1 non-conference victory over the Averett Cougars at Owen-Fulton Field. Senior lefty Ryan Leake picked up the victory of the Eagles with five shutout innings.

Concordia Texas got back in the win column with a 5-1 triumph over Texas Lutheran at Tornado Field. The Tornados cashed in on two early errors to build a lead that Concordia Texas would not reliquish. Josh Smith picked up the win after three shutout innings of relief work. Lane Hobbs fanned eight of the 14 batters he faced in four innings, picking up his first save.
