Marlowe hits for cycle in Augsburg victory

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Josh Marlowe (JR, North St. Paul, Minn.) hit for the cycle on Wednesday morning, leading the Augsburg College baseball team's 16-hit output in a 16-7 win over the University of Southern Vermont at the Tucson Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED
11087 • Marlowe hit a two-run homer in the first inning, a triple in the fourth inning, walked in the fifth inning, hit a single in the seventh and led off the eighth inning with a double, completing his cycle. He went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and two RBI.
• All nine Auggie starters had at least one hit on Wednesday, Billy Brookshaw (SR, Prescott, Wis.), Andy Julkowski (SR, Cedar, Minn./St. Francis HS), Rhett Hebig (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) and Mike Brookshaw (FY, Prescott, Wis.) all had two hits each.
• Augsburg scored two runs in both the first and second innings, then scored four runs in the third, as Mike Brookshaw hit a run-scoring single, Brandon Schmahl (SR, Minneapolis, Minnn./Washburn HS) drove in a run on a groundout, and Billy Brookshaw plated two runs on a single.
• Marlowe tripled and scored on a Julkowski single in the fourth, and Mike Brookshaw hit a double and scored on a single by Schmahl in the sixth.
• Augsburg sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five runs in the seventh inning, with run-scoring singles by Pruszinske and Hebig, and a two-run single by Billy Brookshaw.
• Marlowe capped the scoring in the eighth, as he hit a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrfice fly by Hebig.

• Lincoln Hochmuth (JR, Cannon Falls, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) started on the mound for the Auggies, striking out three while walking two in four innings of work. Jamin Hesby (FY, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) pitched four innings of one-run relief to earn the win, with Steven Piette (SR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) pitching the final inning, striking out one.

FOR THE FOES
• John Arancio went 3-for-4 for Southern Vermont with two doubles and two runs socred, and R.J. Pingitore and Luigi Magliocca had two hits each.
• Starter R.J. Henle, one of five pitchers used by Southern Vermont in the game, took the loss.
