Lexington, Ky. – Zack Getsee has been named the Transylvania University baseball team Head Coach, the Transylvania Athletics Department announced on Monday.

"We are thrilled to welcome Zack to our team," said Associate Athletic Director Keith Cecil. "His experience, character, and vision for success will help guide our program to consistently compete for championships."

Getsee, a native of Washington, Missouri, comes to Lexington from Webster University, an NCAA Division III institution in St. Louis, Missouri, where he spent the past five seasons as the lead assistant coach under head coach Bill Kurich.

"Coach Getsee has had solid experience at Webster University as the associate head coach, and I have no doubt that he will continue to move our program upward," added Vice President of Athletics Dr. Holly Sheilley.   

"Transylvania's academic and athletic reputations are outstanding and I am extremely excited to have this opportunity," said Getsee. "I believe the tools are in place to build the Pioneer baseball program into a national power and provide a great student-athlete experience for our players."

In Getsee's five-year tenure as an assistant coach with the Gorloks, Webster captured the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship in all five seasons, including NCAA Tournament berths in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. Webster advanced to the Division III College World Series in 2012, 2013, and 2015, placing fifth at the CWS in their 2012 and 2013 runs.

Getsee was elevated to the role of associate head coach for Webster last season, handling primary hitting and catching duties for the Gorloks. Webster again repeated as SLIAC regular season champions to cap off his final season in St. Louis.

The Gorloks reached new program heights while Getsee served as an assistant coach, setting a school record for wins in 2012 with 36 wins, then eclipsing that total in the 2013 and 2014 seasons with 37 wins.

Getsee hopes to replicate these standards and achievements now in Lexington.

"My vision for Transylvania baseball is to build a program that competes for conference, regional, and national championships year in and year out," said Getsee. "It takes recruiting the right student-athletes and preparing them to succeed in the classroom, the weight room, on campus, and on the field."

Prior to joining Kurich's staff in 2011, Getsee was a two-year starter for NCAA Division II Saint Joseph's College (Ind.), serving as a team captain for his two campaigns with the Pumas.

Getsee recently completed his first season as head coach of the Quincy Gems, a collegiate wood bat summer league team which is part of the Prospect League. His past summer coaching endeavors include stints as an instructor at the DeMarini Top 96 camps, and The Complete Showcase. He has held membership with the American Baseball Coaches Association for the past five years.
