Rookie Logan Washle's two-out single in the seventh inning plated the winning run in Guilford's 6-5 comeback win over Piedmont Friday in both teams' season opener. Trevor Denton had an RBI, scored the go-ahead run and closed out the win with two scoreless innings for his first save as a Quaker.
Concordia Texas handed No. 21 Texas Lutheran a 7-1 loss Friday night at Katt-Isbel and spoiled the Bulldogs' season and home-opener. Concordia jumped out to a 4-0 lead through three innings and never let TLU back in the game. Bret Leiferman hit his first home run of the season for the Tornados and added three walks on the day.
Greensboro opened the 2017 season in dominating fashion with a 15-4 victory over Covenant. Mac Graham finished with a three RBI day on three hits, while Brandon Soden, Zach Neumeister, and Kristopher Taveras combined for six RBIs on five hits.
The 2017 season started with a “bang” for East Texas Baptist as they defeated Schreiner in the season opener 11-7. Zach Compton and Casey Combs provided the boom with each hitting a solo home run. Compton hit a second home run, plating two on the big fly. Kyle Loson earned the win on the mound, pitching 5.0 innings and giving up five runs (4 earned). Zach Pollard earned the save, going 4.0 innings in relief.

On Thursday, Dylan Wright drove-in four runs, while Charlie Dietrich and Austin Amundson plated three as Pacific cruised to a 15-4 season opening win over George Fox at Morse Athletic Complex. Paul Wolfram earned his first win of the season, tossing five innings and striking out one Bruin hitter.
Pomona-Pitzer began 2017 with a 6-0 win in their home opener against non-conference opponent Puget Sound on Friday afternoon at Alumni Field. Senior David Gerics got the ball for game one and put on a show in his first outing. The senior ace went eight scoreless innings, only surrendered four hits and struck out 12 batters. Senior Casey Hershfield came on to relieve Gerics to start the ninth and he went one inning with no hits to close out the game. The Sagehens were led by freshman Nolan McCafferty who went 3-4 to start the year with two runs scored.
Trevor Pence struck out 10 batters and only gave up three hits in seven innings of work to power William Peace over Southern Virginia, 3-2, on Friday night. The Pacers' open the season 1-0 for the second time in program history. Pence allowed two of his three hits in the first inning and gave up a run, but he was lights out from that point on. Pence was commanding his pitches well and only allowed four runners on base in his final six innings.
