MANSFIELD, Conn. --  In the opening game of Sunday afternoon's Little East Conference baseball doubleheader, sophomore righty Jordan Muchin (West Hartford) struck out 13 batters on the way to tossing the 12^th no-hitter in Eastern Connecticut State University history in a 10-0, seven-inning victory, but Plymouth State University wiped out a four-run deficit  by scoring 13 runs in the top of the ninth on six hits, two errors, a balk, three walks and four hit batters to take the second game, 16-7 at the Mansfield Outdoor Complex.

The no-hitter by Muchin (2-1) was the first in 12 years for Eastern (9-4, 1-1 LEC). He walked three in facing only three over the 21-batter minimum. Muchin struck out the side in the second and two batters each in the third, fourth, sixth and seventh.

Sophomore leftfielder Alexander White (West Hartford), senior All-America centerfielder Alex Zachary (Enfield), sophomore DH Alex Parkos (Meriden), senior rightfielder Pat Sirois (Cromwell) and junior first baseman D.J. Scavone (Auburn, MA) all had two hits in the Warriors' 13-hit attack in the 2017 home-debut of the Warriors, with Zachary, Sirois and freshman catcher Jake LeFevre (Mansfield Center) all driving in two runs.

In the second game, a five-run first inning and four pitchers combined to carry the Warriors into the ninth inning with a 7-3 lead, before the Panthers knocked around four pitchers to score 13 runs. The first seven batters came around to score, with Josh Goulet driving in the first two runs with a single.

Goulet and Cam Ruziak each drove in drove in four runs in the game with two hits each. Goulet scored three times. Freshman righty Alex Larson worked the final three innings for his first win in his first decision. He gave up only three hits and fanned two witih a walk.

Zachary, Sirois, junior catcher Merlyn Herrera (La Yaquiza, DR) and senior second baseman Christian Budzik (Cromwell) all had two hits for Eastern, with Scavone belting his first home run of the year to cap the five-run first inning.

On the day, Zachary reached safely five times with four singles and a walk, drove in three runs and scored three and stole a base. Sirois had three singles and a double, drove in three runs and scored one and Scavone and Parkos each reached four times with three hits and a hit-by-pitch. Both also doubled and each drove in two runs, with Scavone also homering. White and Budzik reached five times each. White had two singles and three walks and scored three runs and drove in one and Budzik contributed two singles and reached three times via walk.

Up the middle, Budzik and sophomore shortstop Cory Baldwin (Cromwell) were also perfect defensively on a combined 20 chances in the field.

Prior to Sunday, former Eastern All-America lefty and professional draftee Ryan DiPietro had thrown the last no-hitter in a 12-0 six-inning win at Rhode Island College on April 30, 2005.
