Clarks Summit, Pa. – After a thorough search, Director of Athletics, Michael McCarty, has named Pete Daniels as the new head baseball coach of Clarks Summit University. Daniels will be tagged with the challenge of leading the team into its first season as a member of the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

After spending the past four seasons as the assistant coach, Daniels will now move into the head coaching position. He has fine-tuned his knowledge of the game over the past few seasons and has worked hard to build a trusting, caring relationship with the players.

After the 2013 season, in which the team was forced to cancel their games due to lack of participation, former player, Jon Canazon took over the program and strengthened the team. He had a great mind for the details and mechanics of the game, helping the Defenders increase their win total over the past few seasons. Coach Canazon decided at the end of the 2017 season that it was time for him to step down as the leader of the program and pursue a different career. 

Taking over the ball club, Coach Daniels will navigate the Defenders into the CSAC, as this will be the first season that CSU will be a member of an NCAA Division III conference. Previously the Defenders were independent, but this year will be playing for a spot in the CSAC playoffs. This new development should help recruiting efforts and strengthen the overall health of the program.

Pete Daniels is a graduate of Clarks Summit University (previously Baptist Bible College) who was a member of the Defender soccer team. He was a part of a stretch in which CSU won three consecutive NCCAA Division II National Championships and was named to the All-Tournament team in 1992. Daniels has also served as the assistant men's soccer coach last season.
